Cheers! I subscribe to your build so make sure you put up some pics!

I promise i will do :willy_nil

Unfortunately progress is slow these days. I will have the garage door fitted on Friday so should have something to update then.

What foam did you use for the doors? Sorry if you mentioned it and i have missed it.

Superb, thanks for the link. I will keep an eye out for anything suitable.

The insulation I used in my woodwork shed is 25-50mm thick and came free from a trucking company like Firmin via my neighbour whobused to drive for them.

I see you are in Kent so if you want, let me know and I will see if he remembers and can get more. Free would be good????

Late home today and absolutely cream-crackered (Rhyming Slang for 'Knackered', which is slang for exhausted). So no progress will be made today, I'm out for dinner tomorrow so Friday after work will be the next opportunity to get on with this.

Hi mate,

Just spoke to Mickey, he says that he got it for me at the time from Cellecta Unit D, Norman Close, ME2 2JU near Diggerland in Strood...... 08456717174

www.cellecta.co.uk

He said to say tell them Skippy sent you......

Hope that helps, may get a decent discount. Or ask if hey have "seconds"

I think what he brought me were cast offs that suited me.

You really notice the insulation in this weather. I spent all day and most of the evening in completing the job of insulating the main carriage doors. All insulation is fitted now, just got to get some vapour barrier and a couple of sheets of OSB.

While I was in there the temp was 50F inside and 42f outside, no heating on - just me working. 50F doesn't sound too warm but it's an ideal temp to work in.

Also, I played around with my laser thermometer while the sun was (briefly) beating down on the garage doors. Uninsulated doors internal temp was about 68F. The insulated door was 46F - so no heat was getting through. This should mean the garage will stay cool in the summer when the sun beats down on those doors from about 0900 - 1900.

Forgot to take pics today - will get some in the morning. Unfortunately my garage vac blew up just before I had finished so the garage is still in a total mess. It was only a cheapo one so not much lost. I'll look into getting a better one this coming week.

Agreed Baz,

My woodwork shed needs a single 6 fin oil heater on high for about 45 minutes in mid winter, then I can turn it off and my body keeps it comfortable.

The garage is not insulated at all.

No room in my shed for much of anything, least of all insulation! Although I do have plenty left over.

When the vac dies on Sunday I ordered one of eBay from Germany. On Monday I got a message saying it had been despatched and I could expect delivery (free by the way) on Wednesday or Thursday. "Yeah, right!" I thought. So, yesterday at 5pm I get a call from UPS - "I've got your parcel but can't find your house in the dark!" I talked him in and met him out front. vac delivered!

It's a good one too, used it this afternoon to clean up the floor:

This is it:

Also got the vapour barrier up.

Just need to get four sheets of OSB, hang them and paint it all.

Found a bit of time this afternoon to get a couple of coats of paint on the right hand pair of doors:

Not sure when I'll get a chance to do the left pair but I did get a coat of sealer on the OSB.

Waiting on the pics of the commercial fan heater still... I'm just pulling your chain, I'm very impressed with what you were able to accomplish on your thin budget. I noticed it took you nearly 4 years to even break ground. You sir deserve a standing ovation for your determination!

(Or a bow because I couldn't find the standing ovation guy.)

How have things been going on this build? You've been silent for too long on your own thread.

Not much to say really, the garage is finished as far as the build is concerned. Been sorting out the cars in there. Renewed front suspension and steering arms on the 320i Touring and now in the middle of fitting a tow bar to it.
Also fitted new engine to the Sunbeam Imp, off for it's annual safety check (MoT test) tomorrow. The 318is coupe is due it's MoT next month.
I'll try to remember to get a few pics tomorrow, including the fan heater.

Once the cars are through their tests the plan is to move my 67 Singer Vogue into the 'workshop' side of the garage and start to get it back on the road in time for next summer.

Hi Rian, yes please do mate. If I'm home you can pop round and see the garage.
Drove past the back Mt Vernon just now on way to and from a failed MoT test on the Imp. Only a minor fail so should have it done by next week.

Baz, if you're documenting the builds on the Imp and Vogue let us know where they are. If you're not, then you should toss them on this thread as I'm sure others would be interested in seeing them as well.

Farmer Brown??????

How now brown cow?

Tell me more about the Singer/Hillman ?

I once bought. Hillman Vogue the one with the 1750cc engine.

A lovely motor, till my mm died and my ex saw the inheritance as a way to get a nicer car, and supposedly the Hillman was suddenly "unreliable" so I bought a 5 cylinder Passat. Nice car, but felt sad I let her spend my mums inheritance.

The Vogue was a Singer, same parent company, just badge engineering. The Hunter, or Arrows, shape was introduced by Rootes in 1966. They had the Hillman Minx (cheap version), Hillman Hunter (rep's special), Singer Vogue (more upmarket) and the Humber Sceptre (luxury). Overseas most were badged as Sunbeams. There's a green Sunbeam Vogue on eBay at the moment, probably been re-imported.

The engine is 1725. Mine has the alloy head which had some work done a few years ago before the project stalled. Still yet to put the head back on the block!

There's a thread on RR about it.

The patch of garden it had been occupying for the past 6 years is diagonally opposite to the door to the garage.

I parked the Imp in the entrance and used the winch and a tow rope to pull her across and along the garden to the entrance. Once close enough I then used the winch and the Imp to drag her into the garage.

So glad I remembered to leave the handbrake off all those years ago!
