Not sure this is the right sub-forum to post this, so mods, move it if it needs to go.
I decided to do one last thing yesterday before the snow in New England hit us. My 1940 vintage Kellogg air compressor had been sitting on a pallet in my garage for at least a year and I had built a dolly to make it mobile. It's not being used, I need to do some restoration and rebuilding. Well, I rigged it with some chains to my tractor loader, and I screwed up the rigging and the damn thing spun around and the muffler hit the pallet and broke off.
So I re-rigged it, got it on the dolly and then checked the damage. I thought the muffler itself had broken but it was actually the head casting. The head casting and the muffler each have a female pipe thread and they are connected by a short pipe ******. The head casting lost two or three threads and the ****** broke out of it. Muffler was intact. So I have a broken casting and the piece that broke off.
How do I fix this? The first thing that came to mind was brazing the casting back together, but that requires a level of expertise I don't possess or know anyone who does. I also considered epoxy or JB Weld, but I am leery of using essentially glue to fix a metal casting. It doesn't affect the functionality of the machine, but it would be nice to have it restored to good condition again.
