Let's hear or see it.
Who has had any wrench( combo/double box/open end) fail and have to warranty it. Please elaborate on the circumstance that exploded the wrench.FFCSYIMF

No explosion, but I spread the 10/11 flare wrench out of my c'man set multiple times before I realized they were kinda **** and you needed to clamp vice grips on them to expect them not to. PITA to warranty too as most Sears don't stock open stock flare wrenches. This was years ago though, I've since upgraded to Snap-On for SAE and SK for metric. Haven't had to do brakes on anything metric yet though so the SKs just look pretty in my toolbox :)

I split the box end on an 1 1/4" Evercraft (NAPA) combo while replacing a roller on a table. I will admit to standing on it a bit.

Spead open the jaws on my mastercraft 5/8 wrench on a stubborn nut on a threaded rod. That's about it for me in my 5 years of industrial wrenching.

I've never had one catastrophically fail but when I was turning wrenches on a daily basis my Snap-On dealer would occasionally notice that the chrome was flaking on the jaws of an open end wrench and replace it.

I had a Craftsman Professional wrench fail on me (very first use) when I was installing some tie rods. I was using the open end on the "flat" part of the tie rod used for adjustment. On side of the open end just snapped off like a twig.

In hindsight, it was dumb because the wrench was just too small for that purpose, but it really didn't take all that much force to break it. Sears handed be a new one when I brought it in. Fortunately that was before they went offshore with everything.

Now I use a large adjustable wrench for that job.

I have broken a bunch of wrenches over the years. Mostly I break the box end because I always use the box end when something really does not want to move.

Biggest one I broke was a craftsman 1" wrench box end.

A forend and I were working on his tractor trying to remove a bolt that had been in there for years. It liked were it was and was holding hands really tight with the rest of the tractor.
So both of us had two hands on the wrench, one foot on the ground and one foot on the tractor so we could have maximum pull.
The box end shattered, my friend ended up face down in the dirt, I stubled around, twisted the heck out of ankle and the ended up face in the dirt.
So I ended up with a twisted ankle, a broken wrench, and a bad attitude.
Told my friend he had to keep soalking the thing and we would try again next week.
On the way home I figured I would go to Sears to swap the wrench out.
Take it into Sears and a dumb punk kid behind the counter looks at the broken wrench with some amazement.
Conversation weny like this.
Him. How did you break this?
Me. I pulled on it.
Him. I have never seen anyone break on if these.
Me. Ok, I pulled hard on it.
Him. You don't look like you would be strong enough to break this.
Me. What do you want to arm wrestle over it....go get me another wrench

Got a few wrenches around with broken box ends. Mostly from abuse (ie a big pipe).

Gearwrenches...either end...either you break with the ratchet which is weak or you break with the open end...which is weak....sort of a catch 22. Obviously its best practice not to "break" with a GW, but it is a IMHO stretch to say that is abuse of the tool...sometimes one side is needed for clearance (open), and the other is needed to not strip the nut (ring).

Bought a set of Husky metric full polish combo's about 10 (or more) years ago. The first time I used the 17mm it went "dink" and one of the open end jaws broke off - under very low torque - no abuse.

Returned the set and replaced them with a set of (USA) Craftsman Pro full polish - which have held up fine

I broke the ratcheting end of a Matco double box swivel long wrench. Used it twice and it just fell apart. Chalked it up to a factory defect.

Large craftsman adjustable ( I think 14") wrench. I was trying to remove the nut on the bottom of a 2" ball mounted to a truck bumper. I slid a pipe over the wrench for more leverage when I couldn't get it to budge. I warrantied it. Clerk called for manager, Manager said yup that is is broken and told me to go get another off the shelf. Unfortunately this was 2006 so I didn't have a camera in my pocket 24/7 to take pictures of cool things like exploded wrenchs/ugly prostitutes i see near work/my lunch just yet.
