Broken oiler?

So i bought an inexpensive oiler. I wanted it for homemade penatrating fluid. Half ATF half acetone. But the mixture will not pump out. Is it a faulty oiler? Or is the fluid to runny? The oiler has a flexible line on it. The mixture does leak out of there a bit but it is as tight as it can get.
Should I try a new oiler?
Do you have any suggestions on the best dilivery system for homemade penatrating fluid?

Try unscrewing the lid and placing the bottom of the pump in a small container (like a lid off a 1 quart container) that is filled with 30 wt oil and see if it pumps. It sounds like you just have a crappy oiler although I have never tried pumping anything other than oil through my oilers. A diaphragm type oiler would work but they don't squirt like the pumpers.

A spoiler....I've found that penetrating fluids like Kroil for instance, will ruin a pump oiler in short order. Something to do with the solvents eating away the zinc the pumps are made of I think. I wouldn't be surprised if Acetone is as damaging.

It seems as 2oohhound is correct. Maybe you should see if it will prime up.

Also, you could try a spray bottle- but I cant think of any that acetone wouldnt eat through.

I use a little made in USA Goldenrod brand pump can for my 50/50 mixture. They run about 10 bucks mail order. So far, about three months, it works just fine. I just used it today before lunch as a matter of fact.

FYI, the 50/50 penetrant mixture is fantastic. Best I've ever used.

So, what nuts and bolts would we find zinc on?



I dont want to ruin any kind of material thru use of Kroil.
