1/2 day today….heading out for a week with the kids & grandkids on Saturday. Have to get the weeks normal chores done and pack.

Skirt boards, Rotbloc installed & holes topped off. Need to regrade some.

Day 4 of construction was today, lift worked great. Only if the charger worked . Gonna call for a service call tomorrow. Hope it’s something simple.

Yes they are laminated & by design they are not nailed the top 2 feet for trimming and fitting to trusses.

While waiting on lift parts, I spread some more recycled concrete to level the building pad.

Got it really close but ran short on material. Time to get hauling a few more loads.

New Lift charger showed up UPS today.
Swapped it in and lift is back charging.

Framing done Time for Trusses

Bracing & truss layout done.

South side (left) is out 1/16” on length . North side is 7/8”.
For my first pole building I’ll take that

Tomorrow rest of my stone will be spread, 48 tons hauled yesterday.

Trusses are scheduled to be set next Wednesday

Do a larger covered porch area while its skeleton is still sticking out !! I did a small porch/dry area by the door I use most and really really wish I’d have made it large enough to comfortably fit a picnic table, grill and have space to still be used as an entryway.

Just a thought. It looks great and it’s always very exciting at this point where you can see how big it is and start planning what to do with it !!

Porch is sized for a few chairs and a small end table for a .

And of course to cover entry for when it’s raining.

Don’t need anything bigger than that. Patio has all the stuff you mentioned up at the house.

Need some moisture to finalize the compaction / concrete prep. Come on Mother Nature

Had 1/2” last weekend = perfect, until the borrowed compactor threw a bearing. Got it fixed and ready for another shower!!!


Placed the stone back fill around the shop perimeter last night. 24” out, grade will be sloped gradually away from here with the soils removed at beginning of project.




My foam sheets were delivered Tuesday, was hoping to get them down before vacation - but compactor breakdown has prevented that from happening.




Still moving forward. Just slower than I had hoped for.

How are you guys installing baffles for vented soffits?

I’m thinking this approach, eventually I will install blown in insulation above my ceiling.



Want to frame this up before ceiling is installed (obviously)

So I came across a roll of reinforced vapor barrier that I had left over from my garage project and will be using that for my "baffles". I should have enough scrap / left over 2x's to make the bracing for supports.

Under/around the concrete

25# will be placed in bulk of the building
40# will be placed width of the main door 32' in (just in case something HEAVY is worked on)
25# will also be placed vertically 8" at edge of concrete along perimeter walls to provide a thermal gap to the skirt board/exterior.

3/4 of my roof steel on today, had to call an audible mid day and grab a telehandler from the neighboring dairy.


My lift was working great until it let the smoke & flames out of the main hydraulic motor.


Not the tool I expected to use today.


If all of my helpers showed up on time and we didn’t have the fire delay, would have got it all on today.

Bonus the neighbor did not charge me for the 28 hours I had his lift

My guess is the windings in the motor shorted to ground. I had a "smell" the last time I used it. The smoke & fire was in the motor it self. Looks like it was reworked at some point by the label on it, guess it was not done very well.

Will be pulling the motor and seeing if it can be rebuilt by my local motor shop.

Lift MFG has upgraded the design and require a full system replacement on it for $3600
I can not buy just the motor from them.....

Found the motor separately from the pump OEM/MFG, still not cheap but NOT $3600

Curious comment/question. I don't see any screws in the overlap seam which I have always done, plus installing the caulk strip at the seam. Is this not needed in your area?

Not required per the engineered plans.
All seams are lapped away from prevailing wind direction. (But this was not even specified)
