Building a new garage......thoughts/suggestions

Hello, been lurking around this site for some time now. Going to build a detached in the rear of my property for my Cuda and parts/tools.

Without going for a variance I can build 600 sq.ft. and 15' high. I would rather it look like a barn and not be overly tall so I am considering staying within these parameters. Not a huge garage overall but will be fine for what I need. I'd like to go with a taller ceiling in the event I ever get a lift but I think that would require a cathedral ceiling and I would have no overhead storage area.

I am thinking I could do a loft type storage over half and cathedral the other side but I just can't vision it in my head.

Looking for suggestions and/or photos of garages/barns anyone has built in this general size.

Thanks,
Chris

I'm actually just wrapping up a garage for my father almost exactly that size. start siding tomorrow. this one is 24' x 26' and 14' high. 10' walls 16' x 8' door, pole barn. if you have 10' ceiling with 4/12 pitch trusses that will give you just over 14' overall height. If you wanted more interior ceiling height you could stick built it rather than using trusses. That would give you much more height. I'm not sure how much a lift needs.
In my opinion the 10' ceilings are a big plus. very open feel and for us it was to fit the 8' overhead door. Needed 8' to fit a navigator and motocycle trailer. really helps with lighting also.
I'm sure others will tell you this. Build it as big as you can.. even if you need a variance. I built 1,200 square foot barn at my place and wish it was bigger and we have another 20 x20 attached. They fill up quick.

I built a 24 x 30 with 10ft ceilings, but I also used a 7/12 truss to have storage in the upper portion of the garage. That pitch roof allowed me to be able to walk through the trusses in the center of the garage without hunching over. This would suit your need fairly well, but the over height of the garage is about 18ft - 19ft depending on how bad your concrete guy screws up (long story).

Anyway, my build is here:

BTW, I custom ordered my trusses to have a 2x6 for the bottom of the truss. This gives me a bit more storage capacity for heavier items... or a larger amount of ****.

You might look into a gambrell roof to get more storage. Roofers may want more to shingle that kind of roof so get some firm prices before you decide.

I built a 24x32 several years ago with 12' ceilings. I have a nice attic/office area that is 10 wide by 6 high all the whole 32'. It's a pole building. The only thing I would do different is go with Gambrel for more space upstairs.... Well I would go 10' bigger each way, but layout was tough at the time

I too am stuck with the size limitation in my build. I had to stick at 500 sqft because of zoning and the fact that one neighbor would have contested anything larger. I originally wanted 1200 sqft...

I am also using storage trusses in my build. The garage is 20 X 25 and they will give a storage area about 12 wide by 25 feet deep. Using a 7/12 pitch roof I was able to get about 5' height inside the storage which is just enough to get boxes and such in without too much hassle. The truss package cost me about $1550 delivered. There was also a beam in the price so the trusses were about $1300 and change.

did you ask them why the beam? Perhaps they can run a 2x6 or even a 2x8 Bottom chord like we did mine. No beam and it's spanning a 24' wide portion. Just some thoughts
