Made it out to Home Depot last night and picked up some more vinyl runner for the shelves, as well as some cable clips and misc electrical supplies.

Should be ready to continue the assembly this weekend. My goal is to get the toolboxes back in by Sunday.

I found this last night. I have actually been looking for a pit kit for a while.
I am going to do the same thing.. I race bikes so a little different arrangements... Have you drawn out any plans?

No plans. I built it all in my head.

Very nice build and great show of skills. I read up a little on pit carts but I am confused on how you get them to the track etc. Do you load them up on a trailer? If that is the case, why not integrate the two into a pit trailer of sorts?

Some assembly pictures.

Added some outlets inside the cabinet for chargers, phones, etc...

It's handy when your project has its own workbench.

You can also see the winch controller run to the front. I'll put a hook on the shelf to hang it from.

Your cart is truly a sight to behold. It's so well thought out and organized. Two questions-
You may have discussed this already, but is the winch 120vdc or 12vdc? Also I'm no electrician, but why use a watertight outlet, but no watertight flex hose conduit and connectors?

I just happened to have that waterproof outlet in a drawer leftover from a previous project.

The winch is 12 volt. The lugs on the front of the cart are to connect a jump box.

Spent today working on the brakes. Sorry for the lack of pictures, but I was working non-stop trying to get things done.

I started by cutting out two "rotors". They're made of 3/16 steel plate. I cut the outer diameter with a bandsaw, and the inner diameter with a hole saw. Cutting two rotors took about two hours. On the plus side, I did it with material on hand.

After that, I clamped the rotor to a 1/4" plate, and the clamped the hub on that. I then mig welded the rotor to the hub, taking care to keep the hub cool, and peening after each small weld. I obviously wouldn't do this for a "real" braking system, but this is a fairly low stress system so I'm comfortable with the welds.

After welding the rotor to the hub, I put pads in the calipers and placed the caliper on the rotor. I used some compressed air to push the pads tight to the rotor and made a caliper bracket out of card stock.

After that, I transferred the template to steel, cut it out, and welded it to the spindle. I then painted the bracket red with rustoleum, which matches the powdercoat almost perfectly.

I'll try and take some pictures tomorrow of the system all put together. I mocked it up with a wheel and bolted it all together to verify it fits well. I had to gently sand the top corner of each caliper to fit and there's very little clearance. I'll take some measurements tomorrow for brake lines so I can order the materials this week.

Should be on track to have the toolbox back in the box and everything on the ground by the end of tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply above.
I just assumed the rotors came with calipers. Fabbing rotors is not something I would have thought to do. Pretty cool Pretty cool you're making your own rotors [emoji106]! They're no doubt much beefier than my original mountain bike component suggestion!

Looks like the protected outlets would be a good idea where they are located so nothing accidently gets pushed into them causing a short.

I bought a cheap car cover on ebay when I started this project. I'm going to attempt to modify it as a toolbox cover. If it doesn't work, I only wasted 18 dollars and a few hours with a sewing machine.

Duncan, I want to see your cover done. I went to Wally
World and got some cheap red and black material. I made two panels out of the red and a strip of black. I sewed the black as a mddle to the two red panels for my welding cart. I need to get a picture and post it tonight.

More terribly lighted camera phone pictures. Sorry for the fuzziness. I'm terrible about taking pictures as I build so I tend to only shoot at the end of the day (in poor light)

Mounting up the hubs

Caliper mounted. You can see the clearance for the wheel. If I had made the rotor about .25" smaller, this wouldn't have been needed.
IMAG0440.jpg

I put a lot of tape on the front of the frame to stop it being scratched and then slid in the toolbox. Big sigh of relief when it fit perfectly.

Storage behind the toolbox.

Row of tool cases. I might make some fold down aluminum doors for the front. Not sure yet. You can also see the winch controller and its hanger.

Terrible picture of the finished cart. I promise I'll take a better one during the week.

In the above picture you can see the pry bar/screwdriver rack, and also the shop towel holder I added.
