Serious Racer ? My driver has won over 300 races and 15 championships.
We left the bucket in the trailer between races. It's far more enjoyable winning and watching others thrash.Another plus is that people don't ask to borrow tools ESPECIALLY after telling them we spent the money on the car , not tools to loan.We never needed a war wagon.Never wanted one. We did have a popcorn maker though.Sure we had toolboxes in the shop and that's where they belonged.I would want a wagon if we ran the Cup series or endurance races. At the local level all a wagon is for is looking "cool". Moving it in and out of a trailer , dragging it into the pits is a waste of effort.
Of course proper spelling isn't necessary either but at least it shows you care about what you write. It can also be a tip off to how well one prepares a car.

No , just someone who knows the value of preparation. Sorry you missed the point

I think your point was obscured by your original post's tone and the fact that you said because he made spelling mistakes, the quality of his work probably sucked...

In an attempt to get this thread back on track I will say that I really enjoyed following the build of your cart. You did a great job and I loved the approach you made with it, using the HF box and locker. I'm looking forward to seeing the last finishing touches be done.

Great build. I have no need for a pit box but this thread is enough to make me want one.

To the OP; there's always going to be a wiseass who wants to pick apart your project, tell you it's unnecessary, or how much better their idea is, regardless what it is.

When the dust clears, your pit cart build is EXACTLY what this forum is all about. Nice job on the build, and sharing all the detailed pics.

Perhaps there should be another forum created for all the pessimists and malcontents. It could be called, "Stay out of the Garage Journal".

Back to the pit cart...........................

Interesting build, quality is superb and the attention to detail is incredible. I'd like to have one just to roll around in my work shops.

I have one question. The brake line that is attached to the outside of the pulling handle. Could it have been routed through the inside? That's the only thing I could suggest doing different, if the design would allow.

Apologies to the OP.

Congrats Vettex you are an internet badass. Yes my spelling and grammar ****. Spell check didn't help me out for some reason. It’s always dangerous to assume you know more then everyone on the internet. I've worked all levels from local SCCA to Winston Cup Teams on the car side. I've supported Ultra 4 teams and KOH teams on the truck side. I grew up doing cross country solar vehicle racing and (with the exception of the nine month vacation I’m currently taking) still support an electric drag car. In 25 years or so of experience teams I’ve supported have had quite a few wins including on the national and international level. I know a little bit about preparation and testing. I fully acknowledge it is possible to run a team out of a bucket. I've seen many people do it. I’ve also seen people drive their car to the track and drive it home afterwards. I stand by my assessment that it is worth the money to have everything in its place, ready to roll onto the trailer, and ready to roll off the trailer at the track. If you make the switch I think you'll find it is quite nice.

On the local level, I do loan out tools. I have even repaired the fuel system on my teams NR 1 opponent a few years ago at the dirt track. It ended up costing us the race, but we were fine with that. The teams I choose to go out with go out to have fun and enjoy being good sports. All of my teams would rather lose a heads up race then win with a DNF.

Good job on your wins. If it works for you keep doing it.

Now back to the originally scheduled program.

For the OP, I’m curious why you mounted the winch on the cart vice trailer? Do you have multiple trailers? It seems like having a winch on the trailer could serve double duty for loading a broken car.

This could definitely be done. Maybe on version II. :)

I already have a bigger winch in the trailer, but because I'm loading the cart through the side door it wouldn't work.

I'll probably have another update in the next two days. I'm currently waiting on a brass sleeve to fix the front brake line, then I'll bleed the brakes. Either Friday afternoon or Saturday I'll do the final load up into the trailer.

First race of the year is 20-22 March at VIR. I'll post up a few pictures in the paddock of everything in place and being used.

Some good friends of mine where just there this weekend. I have never been, but I hear it is supposed to be an incredibly fun track.

90 percent done with the brake lines. I screwed up the last line unfortunately and didn't have any more brass sleeves to redo it. So here's two pictures of how far I got.

After that, it's just a matter of bleeding.

You'll need to rotate the master cylinder up so it is level when the handle is stored upright. The way you have it, it will leak and be hard as hell to bleed. Believe me I've built probably 100 of these carts.

That's better.

Nice looking work and good luck at the track. BTW pump the tires way up, like 40 psi.

Thanks. Hopefully the rest of my brake line parts come today and I can finish up the line and bleed the system.

I bought an Wilwood extra cap to make an adaptor for my pressure bleeder, so hopefully that speeds up the process a little bit.

Brake line fixed and the system was bled last night. Everything appears to work great. Wheels will go back on this evening and the current plan is to load the toolbox into the trailer on Saturday morning. I'll try and take some pictures then.

Very nice Job!!!!! After seeing your cart, I am now thinking of taking an Electric Golf Cart and robing the parts needed to build an electric one that I can sit upright or stand up on the front end and steer it. However, I have a Ton of other project I have to get completed before I can entertain this idea any further. Keep up the great work !!!!!!

Here are some idea someone else had that keep running through my mind:

Loaded the box into the trailer today. Everything fit as planned. Was planning on leaving it in there, but then the cover got done a little faster than expected so I'll probably pull it back out on Sunday to check the fit. If that happens I'll take a few pictures.

I don't think you said it already but what total outside dimensions did you make your pit cart?

The cart is 72 inches long and just under 28 inches wide.

Here's a shot testing out the cover. It's a modified Dacron car cover. Total cost $18.

And here's two shots of the car tied down in the trailer.

The bike used to hang there with the wheel still attached, but there's a little less room there now with the cart there.
