It's more like build another garage in the party garage where I park the line of convertibles and expand the texaco station to include a work bay

lol I woulda been the same way. Too excited to have even found it let alone care if it worked!
Looks great!!

There seems to be a new project on the horizon. Yes???

Currently I am working on a candy scale, an old scooter, a small battery charger, and of course the corvette is well under way.

Sure appreciate your visits here at the party garage

Great write up. The Eagle that Ann bought you, is that the one that's in the front yard? (I love that one). Now, how is it that you go to Pomona and find all sorts of cool stuff and I go and all I find is clunge? I remember how excited you were to show me that Blackhawk jack, it's pretty cool to see friends like you and Ann enjoying life like you do!

Hey Guys
I finally got the word on the T.V. show that was taped here at the party garage in December
The show is called "RUSTED DEVELOPMENT" aka Lords of the car hoards
The series will begin September 7 @ 10:00 P.M. on the discovery channel
They said that my show is #4 meaning that it will be screened on September 28 @10:00 P.M.

I have no Idea what the show format will be for my series because I didn't fit the car hoarder MO

They took several cars, a boat and a motorhome from me to finance the hotrod build.
They had the car from Dec. 15 - march 26 when we hosted a big party for the unveiling of the car The party was all on film (6 hours).
WE had over 150 friends/car guys attend the event. We had very well known car builders in our group as well as a Riddler designer/participant here. We had several $300,000.00++ cars on display and the party was a smash

I can't wait to see how they display the garage because they were very careful not to film any company signs or logos (that is my garage) so I'm not to sure how the place will look.

I still can't show a picture of the car but sept 29 will have a full spread on the monster

So mark it on the calendar and don't miss it. It should be entertaining!!
They refer to me as a demanding millionaire (which I'm not)

Great news, Don. It's marked on my calendar. Can't wait to hear all the comments from GJ members.

I'm with you buddy

Don......did you mention the car before? I've heard you speak of the TV show, but not a build.

Kevin
I haven''t directly mentioned it but I have left a trail to follow
See post 1973 pg.99 and read a few more posts on pg 100 and it becomes apparent.

I am marking my calendar for the show. I don't watch a lot of TV and those kinds of shows, but I will make time to watch this one. I am more into the BTS (behind the scenes) and production stuff as that is what fascinates me.

Thanks guys
The show date is getting closer and I'm getting anxious to show the car.
I have put another 10k into it since I got it back to really finish it off

Wow, you just got overhauled and it needed 10k still? I'm getting excited to seeing the pictures on here once the show airs.

Chip didn't do this one
I wanted more bling in the engine compartment and it needed to be a bit louder
and it had several oil leaks that needed attention

Here is what the engine looks like without a head on it

Well I'm not sure, but the car body looks like a roadster? I see louvers on the tapered front and maybe rear fenders? The big engine looks like a flathead, with a generator and a metal radiator. It could be a 32 Ford pickup? You got me there:dunno::lol:

I watched a couple of the initial shows before Don's episode comes on. The MO of the show is to locate car hoarders and pick out one car they would like to have restored and pay for it by taking all of the rest of the parked, not running cars in the collection and sell them. Doesn't quite seem to fit Don's situation.

First, he can do himself anything they can do and probably better. Second, he didn't seem to have a bunch of old cars sitting around rusting away, but I can't be sure, Never been to Don's place. That's on my bucket list.

Anyway, Don says he traded a motor home, boat and some cars for the build. I'm willing to bet Don came out pretty well here. He got a car done and got entertained at the same time. Being around TV production is fun when you don't have to get up at 4 am every day and work until the director says let's go home.

You are quite right about the fact that I don't have a bunch of junk sitting around to pick from So I would like to think that s why they changed the show name to "RUSTED DEVELOPMENTS"

Thanks for your vote of confidence in my rebuilding ability, however the car looked pretty good when I got it back there just wasn't a big enough budget to finish off the car the way I wanted it. It's good now

As far as marking off an item on your bucket list just give me a call when you can fit me into your schedule and yes it was quite an experience dealing with the production company At one shooting they made me change my shirt 5 times before I came out of the house with an acceptable one. and they were very concerned about the background in every shot

what a PITA

I used to work for Blackhawk over here in the UK, until the sales manager left to form Bear UK & recruited me as his first salesman, selling diagnostic equipment.

Don, in Americarna, Season 2, Episode 10 (Hot Rodders Holy Grail) Ray Evernham visits H&H Flatheads. At the 10-minute mark they show a V-12 flattie that looks a lot like yours. Knowing the price of some of the antique hot rod parts, I can see how easy $10K can disappear just dressing up the engine.

The show was first broadcast in April 2014 and is being re-broadcast now. Here's a Youtube link:

In my bodyshop days I was good friends with a guy named Jeff Russell
He was the head of black Hawk north america before they sold to Snap-on around 95 or 96 and I bought lots of blackhawk frame straightening equipment and also my shop work benches

9sxnuo.jpg

The tools in the cabinets are snap-on and the benches were used as a Blackhawk display at a bodyshop convention (N.A.C.E) in Vegas in 1997 and at the end of the show I begged Mr Russell to sell it to me for a bodyshop experiment .

I watched the show last night, and did get to see your face on the previews for the upcoming shows. I know it swelling up inside to not be able to talk about it, and I'm waiting in anticipation of seeing the show. I have already written myself a note.

Of course you did happen to get a pic of my phone booth in the show though, right? :dunno::lol:

Hopefully you didn't have to give up too many of your projects to get a build done, and we'll have to wait to find that out also.:(

Anyways, I'm very much interested to see the show, and to hear your story afterwards as I know that you will be bombarded with a bazillion questions.:lol_hitti

I know that they parked the Zephyr out by the windmill and took a ton of footage there and the phone booth is right there so lets say yes

You are spot on about wanting to spill the beans all over the place and for sure now it will happen (SOON)
Did you catch the Zephyr on the tow truck being dropped off at their shop?
Or the blurp where I said "my wife says It's a disease"?
Any way we'll have to wait to see just what hits the screen and what hit the editing floor
Thanks for watching

I'm glad to hear that you saw the show and recognized my garage. They didn't show much of it, but they did pan over the cars on the stackers and show the zephyr leaving the yard.

Very cool and i'll be waiting for Sept 28th :rocker::rocker:

mrnitrous

Thanks man, they will be showing an episode every monday night so check the time. They said the show would be on last night at 10PM so I tuned in at 9:20 and found it already showing so I missed the first half of the show

That Goodyear sign looks amazing!!

Looking forward to checking out the show on the 28th :)

INTMD8

Thanks for checking in. I'm very very happy with the way the goodyear sign makes a statement there! So much so that I am starting to create in my mine a way to improve the rest of that area.

It will be a huge relief after the show plays because everyone is anxious to see what they put on film. Remember we had a huge carshow/party when they brought the car back to me in late march.
