The box is pretty sweet you have done a good job. It is always nice to be able to make some things for yourself. I rarely get to, most things I make are customers' and they of course want them when I get done.

As for the comments about building them to sell and be better and cheaper than the tool trucks, I'd say it will be harder than they think to be competitive. If you figure in the cost of using the equipment and all of the other overhead from warehousing material and finished product and having them ready to go with a high quality finish and slides etc, oh, and options, got to have different options... There is a reason why they cost alot. Not saying they can't be less, but a good quality piece of equipment just flat out costs more than we'd like to admit to make it. As a side gig, it would be fine, but if a person has to feed a family from the product then they need to charge enough to make a profit or it is not going to last very long.

Speaking of finish, I didn't see where you mentioned what you plan to do for that. Do you want to paint it or powdercoat or something else?

Thanks for the input. Yes i have to agree with you for sure. You get what you pay for thats for sure. Plus the lifetime warrenty on snap on or mac boxes is awesome to. But i just dont have the coin to purchase one lol

I have not decided what im doing yet for paint or coating. Id like to paint it chevy engine orange or a bright yellow with black drawers.

Any suggestions or color schemes?

Great box! I really like Chevy orange but I wonder what a clear coat would look like.Might be bad a$$.Another thing might be cool is to put a SO emblem on top right drawer with the other box names mixed in around it some how?

Have you thought about locks yet?You got some coin in that top drawer!

Since you're debating colors I'll throw my opinion in. You have a blank canvas. Do a color that sticks out from the norm, purple, dark green, candy colors, FLAKES...... Dude the sky's the limit for me when it comes to working with a blank canvas such as that, I would run with it and do something off the wall. Like hunting? Give it a quick shot of color have it wrapped in your favorite Mossy Oak pattern. Veteran? Olive drab that thing out.

I liked your comment about the Matco guy not liking you borrowed their design. Some salespeople don't get it. Be happy with what you sell and don't pick apart the competition. So it's even funnier to me that you traded off your Matco stuff!

This is effing cool.
I vote British Racing Green in metallic, with some checkered flag striping.
That's just me though. Lots of cafe bike influence on that.

So i have been thinking lots on colors to paint the box in the end. I almost had myself convinced to paint it military green with tan drawers. Would be pretty b.a.
But then i was thinking and one of my passions is rotary engines. Then i thought In 1991 mazda won the 24 hours of le mans with a 4 rotor car. The 787B. So im going to paint the box based on this car

If I had a box to paint, I would probably do it in the old Gulf Racing colors.

UPDATE: "finished" drawer #2. I needed the space so i tossed a scrap piece of aluminum in the drawer like i did with the tope drawer so i could put more tools in. Also the front handle is temporary till i get more material.
Never realised how little tools i have with so much space haha

The box looks great and I love that color scheme. Have you thought about putting a custom emblem on i maybe with your name or something. Like how companies do it?

Okay, I'll start with that I am blown away. just poured through this entire thread, looking at all your build photos. You truly took the Built Not Bought slogan to the next level. Props to you.
Beautiful dog by the way, I got 2 shepherds myself, my eldest I refer to as Mechani-Mutt, as he has a bed in the shop and likes to spend time with my father and I as we work.
Congrats on the baby too!
