This is going to be one of those pieces that some lucky sob 50yrs down the road finds, and is just speechless on how amazing and robust it is.

Well done, keep the pics coming.

+1 on more details of the locking bar for the rollaway, seems like the angle of the lower arm is backwards? But with your skills and progress im sure it will make sense later.

This is an amazing project, very well done.

Thanks JZ

Hey what kind of vise is going on here? I think you got a wilton 600s?

Sure did, the guy I bought the mobile cart off of had four of them so one had to come home with me. And that reminds me, the guy here that makes the replacement jaws has his latest run done and I got so involved with this thing I forgot to order my set. Thanks for the reminder!.

I'm so envious of your metalworking skills. Really cool results! I love following this thread. Definitely keep posting pictures.

Thanks a ton JW, that's very much appreciated.

My son is turning out to be a pretty good wrench. I'm really hoping this gets passed down the line since I did build it with the future in mind after I'm long gone. That would do me proud.

And sure will, after I move my tools over that's the first item on my list.

Alrighty guys, today was a good day.

Figured I show you why I did the lip.

Two passes and it's on the jack

And if anyone cares to know how you adjust the feet as easily as possible when you can't reach them, this is how I do it. I cut blocking to drop it on so I can check it, lift, move and adjust. Just be careful if you're not aware not all 4X is identical so make sure you use the same side size or it don't work out to well.

And ready for paint.

I had to grind down the bolt heads a bit so the top would sit flush. I also need to go get either some plywood or hopefully foam to fill the void so she's doesn't make a racket or damage the top if it gets banged on.

AND HERE IT IS BOYS, 96.3% DONE!!!!!!

Thanks brother, I hope you've already loaded you latest haul. Hard to believe this has been going for darn near 3 months now since I ordered these. I'll be very happy to move onto my next project.

Normally when you buy listas what do they sit on or do they come with feet at all?

Really excellent job!

They have bases and adjustable feet if you want them. Two of my boxes had the base units, but those are long gone now. This area was never meant to be a shop, that's a long story. But side to side it's level and front to back has 1.5" of fall. So it makes it a tuff situation for some things. That's one of the reasons for the insane base to compensate for that little issue.

Welp all the drawers are lined and now the moment I've been working my *** for.......tool occupation. :deathmeta

I'm stoked with this liner material, being it was dimensionally correct for the depth meant trimming it up was easy.

Until the second roll. So a heads up guys if you're going to use this product and it's predicated upon that width being close to dead on. Return any rolls that are screwed looking. I didn't think too much about it when they came, but I did make sure to store them flat with nothing putting pressure on them. Even still I was none too happy about this. But luckily I had enough to make it work and only have one liner that is a little wavy, but it should flatten out. I ended up having to cut four of the 18" drawers out of the middle the roll since it was so bad and ya it got worse then this picture.

Looking great! Very nice build and finished product. A heat gun might help straighten things out a bit with the drawer liner. Just a thought!

Wow this moving stuff over thing took on a life of it's own. 17hrs yesterday and a full 8 by the time I'm done today. :eyecrazy:

BUT!, the beast ate the entire contents of a fully stuffed HF56" top and bottom, the HF side cart over flowing with pullers and hammers, everything that was in my SO 54" and 7 different drawers out of my proto and CM plus took a few items out of the wall cabinets AND AND I still have two drawers wide open on the cart so when I'm doing something the tools can be in a drawer and not rolling around the top. :rocker: :bounce:

So a legit question here guys. Obviously I now need to update the "show your toolbox" thread. Should I show those pictures all there or in this thread too, or even a link in this thread?. Even though I've been here a couple years, I'm not sure what protocol should be. I know lot of build threads show as they go, but this went quick so it's kind of a major shock. :headscrat

Thanks, Cam

Thanks a ton 66. Heck everything is flat as hell now cause it's loaded beyond belief. It is what it is and in 6 months it won't look new anymore so it was nice while it lasted.

Excellent work. It's something you'll enjoy for years to come. Been following this since page one. Can't wait to see those drawers all loaded down. If you decide to to put it in the toolbox thread lets us know it's there.

Oh.... So this is how you're going to play this huh.... Lead us on with this great build but then cut us off like red headed step children... Damn its like my junior year high school prom all over again..... Great Expectations only to be dashed in the end....

Only three things more horrifying then an unfinished thread... Mike Tyson in a spelling bee, Kim Kardashian on Jeopardy or Lil Wayne doing a Trident commercial ( a little something for all the GJ generations)

Don't let this thread die a painful death by leaving out the pics....Don't be that guy! :)

+1 that once you take antacid from Lista monster box EATING all those tools, spend some time taking enjoyment pictures of what you've accomplished.

This thread sure deserves to get the "story finished" and you to get all your kudos for terrific build.

You MAY need to upgrade to 32 Gb memory card . . . ha, ha !! :D . . :rocker:

Thanks for sharing your awesome build. It warrants some pictures also in the GJ Thread . . .
. . . . . Show Us Your Toolbox when you get a chance.
I'd say that can be later, as you have strong following here . . . .
. . . . . in the appropriately named thread . . .

Man that custom box setup is killer and one of a kind. That thing should last forever. Awesome job.

Thanks again much it really is much appreciated.

And MEH!, MEH??!! Oh ya, no pictures for you. :tard: :D

Might as well lay this out so the ergonomics make sense. So those will be top to bottom and left to right. I ended up moving around some drawers. Damn good thing I was close to begin with, I only moved 5 of them on the big cabinet. And I would give what's left of my right nut for two 3" drawers instead of three 2" drawers on that unit, it would have made my life perfect. You'll see.

C1388E68-40E3-4CC5-AE92-5D93F67E36C0_zpsoqvyz6mn.jpg

If I had just two more 3" drawers I could have dedicated one to my torque wrenches which I wanted to do bad. Instead the small ones are sharing space with the 3/4" stuff. First world problems right.

6AE890FE-8D01-47C6-A4D8-06321DCFA4FD_zpsn66ch4sx.jpg

It would have also made the ratchet drawer waaaaay better.

9AE0A1D9-1B44-4029-B5AE-10057BE38444_zpsq9klcx4b.jpg

This one is both SAE and metric, but is all 12 point. I'm still slowly working on phasing out the 12 point stuff in what's supposed to be all 6 pointers and the main drawer. :D

9188AEAB-9E39-42A4-B72F-00788FCC0494_zpsmeadc8qj.jpg

And finally the socket drawer I've wanted for flippppping ever. :rocker:

E7B82EC8-D5E2-4C1E-9BEA-662989D72B08_zpsarlbcrra.jpg

The first two on the third row of drawers is dedicated to metric since the majority of stuff I work on is.

After forever having all these just thrown into a drawer and having to endlessly search for what I needed has ended. It cracks me up, in the old drawer it looked like I had tons of this stuff........now, not so much.

2A4ED860-882F-4A7B-B4A0-EDFC24650B21_zpsvwjdby40.jpg

This one is deceiving, not only is my Mastercool flaring tool kit in there, but the entire 37.5deg dies as well. And all the various other kits and cutters. I had wanted to dedicate this drawer to just my electrical stuff, but no such luck. So I just kept to couple of meters I use for car stuff in it.

83823AD6-FFB5-44BD-BDA9-0B5D703A28D3_zpstbtbbx7d.jpg

OHHHH the drawer I hate. A 3" would have eaten all this up in a third the space. I'm going to have to see what Joe will charge me for a couple 3" drawers. This is not going to cut it. An ya I tried other configurations in other drawers as well and my luck didn't get any better.

D3C2779C-4E8D-4FC0-B42D-A9526D49F5A3_zpszcno2hmp.jpg

Stuff I rarely use.

8C13ED44-1382-43F5-B035-8878090D3D79_zps3tgiewlb.jpg

Another box eater drawer.......I can't even remember what I put in there but it sure holds a ton.

5B4FA624-380D-460B-94AF-126AB87B59CB_zpso81oyuof.jpg

The next two are works in progress, but good enough for now.

And ohhh buddy, the bottom drawer from hell. And I haven't even tossed a lot of stuff in there yet.

1843CA4F-4C5F-4B6D-BF3C-00C113A69B2B_zpsvvdxqwpy.jpg

Misc pullers and stuff.

And it pulls double duty too

A63DD6F2-9ADE-4CA3-B41F-321B83C2603B_zpsb2rpubyh.jpg

Now for the cart.

Tools that are always out and in use.

971051E9-30A3-4AC5-85DC-98ADB0709D6B_zpsixrjj4zn.jpg

Something I've never had before.......hammers I could find.

EA6928EA-8D79-42D9-8A18-443D628322D5_zpspup4zwyt.jpg

And three clear drawers, but I have plans for one of these. This should really help when doing projects. I can keep the tools I'm specifically using in the open ones and not have the top all jumbled up with everything. We'll see.

Wow that's **** load of tools dude. You got me beat by a mile.

You're looking at over a 3-1/2 decade collection. I still have the CM RP metric wrenches and socket sets in there my dad bought me as a grad gift right before I moved to AZ to go to trade school. And this damn place hasn't helped either That Hot Deals section has not only emptied my wallet, it's filled this box too. :spit:

Wish I could take credit for that bud. They were in the box when I bought it. Matter of fact he had two of these carts, both identical in everyway except this one had the liners. AAAhhhhhhh I'll take that one. ;)

Lots of time figuring out how and where to place all that stuff. But it looks great.
You almost want to open the drawers and stand back in amazement and honor the structure like its art at a museum.

Hi!

my hat is off to you, Sir! Excellent build, really great looking and functional workbench!

Kind regards,
Oliver

Thanks Oliver

You think low voltage high intensity track lighting would be overkill?? :lol_hitti

Great job on the build! I think I chubbed up a couple of times. This is an idea I've had for a couple years with the snap on cabs I have.

Thanks!

Not at all. Although the new trend is LED. Gotta keep up or go home.

Of course, wtf was I thinking. :dunno:

BTW, after using the box this past week I'm gonna steel your idea and install some LED's under the lip to help see the tools, it ***** getting old.

OK guys, I got started on the lock stuff this afternoon and it's mostly done. I forgot to take pictures of the internal pieces for the lock handle, but it has to come apart for painting anyhow so I'll do it then.

Parts all cut up.

So does this make some sense. To be honest I had meant to raise the bar to begin with in a intermediate bar, but screwed the pooch and machined the bottom piece and went with it anyhow.

Ya buddy, those dividers make all the difference in the world. And for some darn reason, I'm thinking a TB tour might be a ways off. I'm now considering a upper cabinet or something like that. :bounce:

Thanks S, I've been working out of it now for a couple weeks and just couldn't be happier with the set up. Don't get me wrong, I dig those big boy snappy boxes like yours, but I'm into this for way less then a quarter what the comparable space would cost me.

Well after a break for a couple weeks I finally got back to it today. Got the rubber baby buggy bumpers modded and installed. Man ya gotta luv it when you dig up some of those stupid little things ya've rat holed away for years. For whatever reason I had a few of these 5/16" double sided isolators, so one go cut in half and sanded down to the exact thickness I needed.

Hope no one minds, I'm going to try and break some of these pic's over to another page. With all the ones I've loaded on this one, it's got to be a major PITA to load.

Got going on the final parts to the cart lock. I took a piece of 2" X 2" and for no other reason then I could, swooped it up a little.

Capped it and welded in the nuts before I closed the front in.

Then I milled out a slot that should give me enough play to compensate for most adjustment issues.

Oh ya, I cheesed out and when satin black for a couple reasons. First I really didn't feel like mixing up the stock color and cleaning all the gear for such a small area. And two, it really disappears with the cart in place. I think once the side panel is installed, you'll never notice any of it. Also I've decided to change the lock handle to a recessed round lock with a thumb hook. That way I can match that lock to the ones I'll be using on the drawer bar stuff.

So it's done and works great. With the little bit of cush the buggy bumpers give it takes just the slightest pressure on the lock to secure it perfectly in its home. I'm happy with how it turned out, the cart is secure as heck - she no move :)
