Looks to be a decent bench.
I built mine 36" deep against the wall. It's ok but 30" would have probably been better too.
36" to 48" is fine for a bench that has access all the way around. Stuff like assembly or whatever it's better.
You mention no truck but have a lot of tools that cut wood. How do you get the wood home that you're going to work?
Also for the materials in that bench, I'd bet you could have put that into a car unless its really small. Strap the longer stuff to the luggage rack.
Idk.
Ive always had a truck and never had to consider doing that.
Hell for that matter you could sling some long 2x material underneath the car. There's always a way.
36" is perfect for this and the universe delivered. It will sit where to the left in the photo where the thin black bench (with fire extinguisher) is sitting, as this new 36" replaces the old 24"
Any work I plan to do will most likely be able to be cut down and fit into an accessible vehicle. Renting a truck / delivering depending on volume (aka, $30 to rent the truck and spend the time shopping, etc OR $79 to put it in the cart and have it delivered). The larger issue here was time. Thankfully, I had 2 hours open up one night this week to add the bottom shelf (I just needed 2x4s from Big Orange) and then most of the day on Sunday unexpectedly freed up to allow me to rethink the plans (for the umpteenth time) and then add a full middle shelf instead of a partial middle shelf.
I have a 2017 Passat and no roof rack. The 2x4 can fit in the car, but not the sheets of plywood.
I am not one to put things on the roof or the under the car. Just asking for an issue..
