Very nice score.

We have 100's of linear feet of those in our labs, some of them have been there since the 60's.

I have four of the upper (except green) cabinets.......They are awesome!!! I keep all my detailing supplies in three of them, you can clearly see everything your looking for.

Those are sweet and will be sweet for a long time.I am just about in the same place you are with a remodel.I scored some free kitchen cabinets going to paint them I would love those.

They are def nice! I had a hard time picking the style i wanted. i got 2 sections full of drawers -4 small 2 big drawers, one that has double cabinets and a shelf on the inside and a big upper drawer. The last one I got I really like its a full size half cabinet with shelf and the other half is 3 medium sized drawers. The uppers are def nice they are just a little shallow at about 8-10" shelf space behind the glass. So I'm not sure what I will ultimately be able to put in them? Besides oil, spray paint, lube etc. it would never fit a skill saw or anything like that.

YOU ****, I hope you bought as much as you could afford, and could pack in a storage bin. Those things sell for hundreds. I have about 10ft of those and LOVE THEM. I wish there were more. I have yellow and orange, but plan to repaint them. I got mine for a great price, but I wish I had the opportunity to fill my garage with them.

I'd leave them the original powder coated finish. Maybe a one time polish or wax them. They look great. BUT, if you do decide to paint them I think they're too nice to do what a lot of us do and just paint with house paint or rattle can them. These are so nice they're worth using an automotive grade paint or at least Rustoleum with a hardner added for durability.

now... What for a countertop!?

Double up some 3/4" plywood and maybe put some 1/8" hardboard on top. Or if you're gonna splurge, pick up some butcherblock counter top from Ikea. Yeah, pricey I'm sure but you virtually stole these niceass cabinets.

Yah I got 16' of uppers and lowers. My back wall is 19' so I have enough to cover it.
I think I got the best ones he had left over. I do need some room on the sides so I'm hesitant to take the 2hr ride each way for more.

Isn't that like 3 inches thick? That would make for a great top. It would like nice too.

I like the colors that your cabinets are, since they are the biggest thing the the room and they are presentable, I wouldn't worry about painting them, unless you can't stand them.

We just scuff sanded these with #220 grit sand paper then used Rustoleum Signal Red Enamel and painted with a regular 3/8" nap roller. We put on two coats. 1 gallon did all these cabinets.

Powder coating is actually an inexpensive process. The killer is these specialty places that charge a ton. You need to find more of an industrial powder coater

its got some texture because we didn't thin it out first, but I think if you thinned it, it would lay fairly flat

Now tell us how much it cost to coat a little thing like that. It would cost more to sand blast and coat those 8 cabinets than he paid for them.....

How did you prep the surface? Did you sand these or scuff them? If sanded what grit? These are powder coated and fairly smooth.

Ok so I kind of want to paint these after seeing Darrk's cabinets.. I took apart one of the glass cabinet doors to see how hard it was and it was a bit of a challenge. They have these plastic things that slide and pressure fit the glass to the metal frame.

It was a bit of a challenge but I got them apart. So I think I am going to do the rustoleoum roll on all bright red... But I think I will have to so the inside too to make it look right...

They look ok maroon but I think they would look amazing gloss red.

Thoughts?!?

Because you want to paint the insides also, I think I would buy a cheap Harbor Freight paint gun, some Rustoleum paint and a can of mineral spirits/paint thinner and spray them...it would be the quickest way unless you are in no hurry.

Spray inside and outside. Spray cans don't go too far, you usually need 2 or more coats to cover and it would be expensive for that much inside painting. I'd just buy a cheapie spray gun from HF and shoot the paint at low pressure to keep the over spray down a bit. Spraying the inside of anything is messy enough because it blows back all over you.

If you can get the same paint in both rattlecan and roll on: I would scuff everything down with a scotchbrite. Spraypaint all the hard to reach areas/corners with a light coat. Let it tack and spray another medium coat for full coverage.
After thats COMPLETELY dry, using those 4" foam rollers from HD(nap rolls have to much fuzzy stuff that can come off) roll on the paint as even and thin you can. let it fully dry. then do a final roll-on coat for full coverage.

IMO i think the roll on stuff is much more durable because it probably takes much more coats of rattlecan to get the same thickness of rolled on paint. It also takes a bit longer to get tacky so it comes out even. Using a gun would require much more prep because the overspray makes a huge mess.

If youre gonna spray set up a booth or cover everything in plastic including floors red overspray gets EVERYWHERE!
