Can I buy a die to crimp 5/32 7x19 cable rope for this crimping tool? The crimping tool was used to install stainless steel cable for a stair railing system. The die is hexagonal and measures 10mm. It is replaceable, but the company is in China - tough to get a hold of anyone. I was wondering if I can buy a generic die to replace the existing one.

The model # is JT-150.

Those are Greenlee knockoffs
Try taking just your dies to Harbor freight and match the up to their cheap hydraulic crimping set. Also the same sets are sold on E bay and Amazon. They all appear to be made in the same factory, different box. The die in yours looks very similar.
I think the whole hydraulic set was 30 bucks. It has 8-10 dies.

Here's a pic of my die. The HF dies are also pin style. As are a set I found on Amazon. My die differs in that it has a protrusion on each side. Anyone know if it will work?

...refundable I think.

Is the 7/32 wire rope with these swages a critical life safety application? I've spent a lot of time with wire rope (and chain and other ropes) in my career, and just wondering.

Ordered it. I plan on using the 5/32 wire rope attached to an electric hoist to lift cast iron steam radiators into a lye bath to strip the paint.

I did some smaller radiators (maybe 125lbs) with the long leg of a ratchet strap attached to a fabricated metal hook. (Two straps, two hooks). I have a bigger radiator (250lbs) to do soon. The hooks cannot fit anywhere on the radiator. The fins are too narrow. The wire rope is narrow enough to fit thru the slim fins of the radiator.

I figure 2-3 wire ropes should be adequate to handle the load.

I think you'll be fine. 2800# breaking strength on 5/32 GAC, 10:1 design factor. The swages are nearly 100% (I think clips are in the 80% range?) I'd guess winch is the weak link, but not a real risk. Seems load is never over heads, so no great hazard.

Apologies, but it's been 4+ years since I last designed a rigging system so a little rusty.

Couple smacks with a hammer and you'd be fine for this application
But I'm all for purchasing new (appropriate) tools

Why crimp something that's not designed to be permanently used?
