Hello all It has been a long time since I had posted anything here. Glad to see the forum is still around.

Has anyone ever heard of CAL-HAWK USA? Is this a different brand than CAL-HAWK?

Does CAL-HAWK now have a line made in the USA?

I attached a photo of the tool for reference.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

I've always known them as an importer. Maybe the company changed their name to try to hide the made in China heritage of their wares.

Googling

"cal hawk usa"

Seems to reinforce my opinion.

These days whenever a company changes their name to include USA I automatically assume nothing or most of what they offer is not made in the USA.

But Cal-Hawk I always assumed was just economy grade tools, like what you would find at auto parts stores.

I think the closest they get to the USA is having an office here.

Not sure if they still do but they used to offer Nano sockets under their Pro line:

I have a set of 3/8 impact swivel sockets branded as Calhawk USA.

I think Cal Hawk tried out the CAL HAWK USA "company name" branding and were probably called on their shenanigans, and dropped it fast. I have a set of spindle/axle sockets that the Amazon picture shows the USA marking but the set that was delivered is marked: CAL HAWK PROFESSIONAL. The country of origin was clearly listed as China on Amazon, and I had no illusions since the set was only ten bucks at the time. They seem well made, but I have not used the set so I can't comment on quality. I ordered it when I encountered a 12 point spindle nut, but was able to use an old chrome 12 point to get the job done without waiting.

I do though have a set of Cr.Mo. Cal Hawk deep swivel impact sockets with the "USA" marking which also look well made and have held up well (mostly on exhaust work). I would not have tried them if they were not dirt cheap when I bought them, but I am very happy with them. I assume these are Chinese as well. I have always considered Cal Hawk to be flea market junk tools, but have found that some of their products are actually decent now.

It frustrates me when Chinese or other off-shore companies put USA in their name or claim to have a USA division simply because they have an "office" somewhere in the US.

In my head I see an empty 1 room office in a building somewhere or just a PO Box. My assumption is it's more for legal and tax/import purposes than anything else.

You mean like Kubota USA, Toyota USA, etc?

Not exactly. I don't know about Kubota, but Toyota actually has manufacturing in the USA, not just an office.

Which is funny when Ford or Chevy parts have made in Mexico or China on the package, but Toyota will have made in the USA.

For a while, my Toyota Tacoma had a higher percentage made in USA than a Chevy something, per some story on the web. Who knows how true. Mine was made across the Bay in the old NUMMI plant, two days after I took a plant tour with work, 18+ years ago
