The Chicago pneumatics logo on your impact seems interesting.

Back in the ‘80s there was a sales booklet mailer that looked like the Harbor freight booklets but I believed they were called central pneumatic. I bought an impact from them and it had a cp on the side. Hope it isn’t one of them, it was Chinese junk.

I can't imagine rebuilding an old impact like this, especially considering a HF 1/2" impact be bought for under $100 (and will have more torque).

Yeah, but, that is a workhorse of an impact. It may not be particularly hard hitting, but those two piece body units are solid as a rock.

Its about as useful as a rock if it doesn't have the power to remove the fixings that need to come out due to a lack of torque.

I wouldn’t say that. Don’t forget to consider the mass of the sockets used. You have two impact guns rated at similar torque outpost, one a higher rpm with lighter hammers, and a slower one with heavier hammers. The relationship between the mass of the hammer against the mass of the anvil, socket, etc, plays a bigger role than you think. With a big heavy socket, the 1/2” rated at a similar “torque” is going to have higher losses than a 3/4 that turns slower with bigger hammers. The end result is that the 3/4 will be more effective despite being rated the same as a 1/2”. Torque ratings on impacts really are a meaningless measurement...if you can even call it that. There are so many factors that change the overall tension of fasteners when using impacts. Soft vs hard pull up joints, mass of the socket, mass of the nut or bolt, etc... torque ratings are a starting point for comparisons, but there is more to it than just the advertised torque.

Just looked on Ebay, can buy one that looks like new for $105 or BO, with free ship. Probably spend close to that on parts for that beater...….:pimpflash
