If anyone needs impact sockets, I noticed that CT has the deep metric set on sale for a better price than I’ve ever seen - $48 - Link

Deep sockets, every size from 10mm to 24mm plus three extensions. While I don’t consider extensions necessary, the rest has no skips and no filler. I don’t know of a better impact set for the money.

The only reason I moved on from my maximum set of impact sockets was the skips. Other than that they're perfectly serviceable

Picked up a couple of these knockoff Bessey clamps from PA. Damn good clamps for the $25ea on sale, too good to pass up. I have some of the OG Besseys to compare. Are they Bessey quality, not quite, but the same clamp in a Bessey is about $130ea. The Quick Adjust is a super nice feature when youre one handed.

redeem CT Money on Friday or Saturday, and you get 20% back in more CT money

Although I guess I don’t need to spend it on TwinGrips now… (and thank-you for that JradM :))

Will CT price match amazon?

Just curious if you could get the PM and the CT money back.

I don’t know if CTC matches Amazon, but in this case they aren’t the exact same item (200mm vs 250mm).
My Canadian Tire store won't price match anything. I wonder if that's a corporate policy though, or just a grumpy store owner.

I'm not asking for them to beat a competitor like Home Depot does, but when I can just buy the same thing elsewhere for less...

I think this is one thing killing them selling Knipex. Onlike pricing is like $20-30 cheaper! on a pair of pliers. I bought my Twingrips at full CT price (IIRC they were like $80 but I could be wrong) because I needed them, but if I could wait, Id have saved significantly.

The TwinGrips are $60 regular. I think they were $55 a while ago, but most places do have inflationary adjustments on the better brands.

From what I remember when I bought my last Cobras, CanTire was a bit higher than KMS regular, and the spread widened when KMS has a sale.

Selection is part of it. Buying the 3 pack of Cobras was a lot better deal, and they don’t offer that.

I understand why Knipex (and others) have minimum price policies. And they are expensive and not for everyone. But if they’d just have a bonus CT money promo on Knipex or Wera there would be a reason to buy those there.

House of Knives just sent me an email about their "winter clearance". This stuck out:

1000008051.jpg

That seems crazy good, but when I click the link - they all show as sold-out. 😡

I imagine if any stores have them in-stock, that's the only way you'll get that price. I might actually go to my local store to see. I hate visiting the mall, but I was thinking of getting a pair before I spotted this sale, so that price is tempting.

Added in almost all I could find. Need to hit up one RonaPlus next time I go back as the 20mm I grabbed actually was an 18 that I didnt need.

have found most of what I have left to fill is available on Amazon. Cheap way to round off a purchase here and there.

I bought these recently to use on some impossible to reach bolts on fan clutch:

1000008107.jpg

Presently $13.97 on Amazon, which is within a few cents of the all-time low. Looks like that's the same as the exchange-adjusted price in the USA, so you decide if that's a deal or not - but I couldn't find them any cheaper and that's with free Prime shipping. It seemed good to me.

I was just going to weld an adapter to a piece of flat bar, but for $14 it wasn't worth the effort.

Seeing them in person, they seem like decent problem-solvers. The chrome is low-grade and a bit bubbly, but the "comfort grip" is a nice touch.

They clearly could have been even lower-profile if they welded the drive square to the handle, then ground it flush. Instead it's press fit into place (hence the round bulge at the top).

Any of my Canadian friends used PMC tire to buy tires online?

In the past I’ve used tire rack and shipped to a drop in the US but with the exchange these days the cost savings is minimal.

PMC has the best price and the tires I want are in stock.

I have. No complaints. Can't remember the mfr date code but they weren't old/sitting in a warehouse too long.

Ditto, used them a few times with no problems. Also had good results from Black Circles.

Also a happy customer.

Same scenario as you.

I ordered the tires from PMC, I’ll report back when they arrive. So far very happy.

Their prices are excellent but a little unusual. There were two falken tires I’ve been looking at, the rt615 and the rt660.
Everywhere else the rt660 is more expensive of the two, except for PMC who has the 615 more than the 660. So I got a better tire cheaper.

I ordered last night and this morning got an email that they were not instock (website said they were) but could be shipped from the US in 2-3 weeks. They asked if I wanted to wait or to cancel. Since these are for a summer car I chose to wait.

This isn't deal-related (or is it?). Peavey Mart is shutting down.

I'm disappointed by that. I like Peavey and they have some tool options that are hard to source elsewhere (like Montezuma tool boxes or welding gas). It was nice to have somewhere to grab v-belts, in any size I needed, or specialty pins, fasteners and components for my tractor

Probably be some "clearance" sales soon, so I guess this news is deal-adjacent.

That ***** but I’m not surprised. The last few times I was there the store was empty of customers.

I’ll have to stop in and check for any deals.

What should I do with my welding gas tank now??

I want to say "Linde" was Peavy's supplier, you could probably go there. KMS refills too, and I don't think they care whose tank you bring in.

I hope for some good deals too - even though it feels weird to pick the bones of Peavy's carcass. Peavey had some good workwear deals too. Where am I going to buy canvas shorts now?

Growing up, I used to hang out at Peavey.

I liked them. And they’re the closest hardware place to my house. But I’m not overly surprised. There wasn’t much they were the leader at. Lots of empty shelves, Tool selection wasn’t great. I will miss the bolts by the pound. I bought quite a few of the grinding discs they always had on promo. Gardening stuff was good, but not hard to find elsewhere. I don’t know where else I’d buy a garage floor liner.

The farm supply stuff was their turf, but I suspect Princess will fill some of that void, if there really is any the Co-op’s and machinery dealers don’t.

Seems like an odd shopping list, but guess I’ll need to stock up on bolts, hydraulic fittings, pins, and ball valves.

Was Harvest King a generic brand they carry or their own private label? Might need to get one tin of HK something to leave on the shelf.

I'm not completely surprised either. The closest one used to be TSC before becoming Peavey. Their pricing wasn't that great typically. Welding gas was convenient as Peavey is open on weekends, but it was more expensive than just going to the local Linde shop. The other nice thing was them selling nuts and bolts by weight. Though technically this is probably has most other places come up with the individual costs. It was just easier at check out to toss a bag on the scale rather than have the clerk have to enter everything individually.

Can't say I'll miss TSC/Peavy, as they were always out of the way for me. Did stop at the Woodstock (ON) location occasionally as it was easy to pull in on the way to somewhere else. Always stopped there to look around as I lived there so long ago.

Think the next one in trouble is RONA.

When TSC opened here it was a pretty good store. Once it changed to Peavy it went downhill.

I went in to Tractor Supply in Niagara Falls NY about a month ago and it was amazing. Dramatically better than Peavy.

I'll echo the things going downhill after Peavey took over. Their inventory in stores was very hit or miss, and you had to go to the store to find something because their website was awful. I am dissapointed that they are leaving though, they had some things that are hard to find in other stores. Cattle panels and banjo plumbing fittings come to mind.

I really wish the TSC/Peavey stores here could be like Tractor Supply in the states, I've heard nothing but good about them.

But in keeping with the thread, sounds like there should be some deals to be had as they close up the stores.

Rona better not be going anywhere. I have 3 of the Moffat and Powwel/Rona stores within 15 minutes of me, they are my go to source for building supplies.

Just judging by the two Ronas by me, no customers and no staff in the stores, mid-week. Stay tuned.

I checked the peavy mart website just now.

They have no sales and no flyer listed.

However every product appears to be marked down 10%.

I wonder if they will progressively mark things down until it’s all gone?

With Peavey, my guess is that Home Hardware / building center will end up with a few locations, a bunch of locations will re-brand into a country supply store.

I think the western stores will re-appear and thrive. They will re-negotiate new leases or at least free rent for two years. There's a lot of vacant retail as the market has shifted from bricks and mortar.

The one I shop at High River, is a big modern store, good merch and prices, but terrible merchandising. I went to buy something that I saw on GJ, asked 2 or 3 people and got blank stares. The computer said there were several in the store. Finally I found it on the bottom shelf pushed to the back. It was hard to find deals, I impulse buy too often, and I did not see the impulse merchandising that you see at other stores.

There is no sense of urgency. Get the buyers from Costco and Princess Auto and let them go wild with "Special Purchase / Special Buy". You need a sense of urgency that it's going to be gone quickly. Then get some inspiration from Lee Valley for trinketry. You'd come to get a salt lick and end up with $100 of other stuff.

Then they need to revamp there merchandising rules. Sale stuff on the bottom shelf is not good.

Here's a local version of what I think could go into Peavy locations. It's been here 10+ years and sell wire post, feed and lots of ag stuff.
