Excerpt from the flyer. Not a sale exactly, but a promotion that applies to Wera. Haven't seen that before at Canadian Tire.

There are two models of bench grinders on clearance at Canadian Tire - one Mastercraft and the other Maximum. Price varies by location and they're not available at all stores - so YMMV.

4.8amp 8-inch Mastercraft:

2.5amp variable speed 6 inch Maximum:

download (1).png

The regular prices (with my tongue firmly in my cheek since it's Canadian Tire) are $149.99 for the Mastercraft and $169.99 for the Maximum. Clearance price is about $75/each in my neck of the woods.

Note - some stores had them for ~$100, others for ~$90, a couple even showed regular price. I just changed my location a few times to see who was the lowest (I was checking Calgary and Red Deer).

I think the Mastercraft is interesting - that's a decent motor size at this price point and 8-inch versions are more expensive and less common. However, no variable speed. The Maximum also has a cast iron base (aluminum for Mastercraft) and a lock-out switch. The work rests and guards also look more robust on the Maximum. Both have lights (the pic for the Maximum is just cut off).

I personally went for the Maximum. I already have a bench grinder, but I wanted variable speed. This way I figure I can leave a buffer or wire wheels on one, leave the grinding wheels on the other.

My existing bench grinder, for what it's worth, is a ~15 year old Mastercraft 6" single speed. It was the model they used to offer that had a low speed wet sharpening wheel on one side and a regular grinding wheel on the other. Well many years ago I burned up the plastic gears that reduced the speed on the sharpening wheel side. I used it one-sided for many years, then recently converted the unused side to a homemade belt sharpener (see the homemade tools thread 😉). So I wouldn't buy a grinder with "gears" again, but the motor itself seems long-lasting.

Veritas seconds event is tomorrow at 12 (noon) EDT.

Landing page

Thought I would use your Lee Valley link and check up on the 14” Rikon band saw. I’ve been wanting one for awhile. I didn’t have much time to think of it earlier in the year and was waiting for them to go on sale. Well not exactly a sale but when they include the wheel kit in the price. It was something like $1500 not including wheel kit. Now it’s $1800 and no wheel kit. ☹️ Would have been ahead of the game at the former retail price.
If you guys see it on sale give me a heads up. Thanks

In past years there have sometimes been limited quantities of discounted gift cards included in the seconds sale. Those sell out fast - you might want to check the site when the sale launches, then use those to buy the saw.

That is a great idea. Thanks
I didnt see any today unfortunately. I was ******* in a meeting right when the sale started though - I was a 1/2 hr late and like 80-90% of the stuff was already sold out! Might have just been bought up asap.

I did grab the mini block plane I've been wanting. I was thinking about a chisel too - but everything was already cleaned out.

6-pc ball hex Zebra T-Handle set from Wurth for $29.

I really like Wurth's tools. Their screwdrivers seem to be made by Felo, lots of the pliers are Knipex or Felo.

Bonus: Here is a coupon code for 15% off: welcome15 - this was a promotion they offered two years ago for first-time orders, but I just checked and it's still working! Even for me, who has ordered a few times before.

Free shipping on orders over $150 - but I don't think you can combine that with the 15% off (and shipping isn't usually that bad anyway).

Wurth sell great stuff.

Will they sell lubricants to non-business accounts? I need to reload on HHS2000. I can get it locally but they slap a pretty decent markup on each can.

The Milwaukee M12 5-tool kit is back in stock again probably as a Christmas promotion. For $279 + tax, this is a solid deal, better than the other combo "promotions" as it comes with the 3/8" ratchet and 2 (basic) batteries. If buying separately even with occasional promotions, you'd expect to pay over $400 + tax for everything included in this kit. Act fast as this kit is only available during Christmas season and father's day promotion.

I eyeball that kit every year at this time. 😄 That is a good deal.

The hackzall and ratchet are the real stars in my opinion. I don't really need a small impact driver - but a tiny drill can be handy.

Indeed! It would be a perfect deal to include the brushed M12 "screw driver" and drop the price to, say $250. It will be exactly what a home owner/weekend worrier/tree shed mechanic would need. In my opinion, the relatively higher torque and the impact function can be counter productive for an amateur who tends to close eyes and press the trigger to the bottom and damage either the screw or the work piece. The little drill is nice and useful even to a pro, though.

Bosch 30-ft cross line laser level is on for $59.99 at Lowes.

GLL 30 model - a pretty basic unit, but still - cheap and reliable. It gets better though - Lowes has a $10 coupon for orders over $50 when you sign up for their email newsletter. While that only works once, it takes a mere minute to sign up for a burner gmail email address. :devilish:

KMS Tools is having a "Black Friday" sale on their Bynford Pro Magnum tool chests in red. $679 for the 42" roller and $399 for the 42" top chest.

I have read on here that these chests are exactly the same as the Harbor Freight US General 44" chests and the pictures sure do look very similar to the US General pics. The handles and rollers look different. The KMS price is shockingly comparable to the US General sale price after currency conversion, CC fees and paying local US taxes.

My issue is that the listed dimensions are quite different from the USG stuff. Magnum = 42" x 18" x 33.6" and USG = 44-3/8" x 22" x 40"

I get that the USG 44" includes the handles in the measurement, but the USG is supposed to be 22" deep, while the measurements for these Magnum chests are 18". I wonder if maybe these are the same as the USG Series 1 instead of the Series 2? Maybe KMS haven't updated their website since the change from Series 1 to Series 2?

I'm about 4 hours away from my closest KMS Tools location, so I cant exactly pop in and look before ordering. Does anybody have any information on these KMS tool chests that they could share? Anything better in Canada for a similar price? I definitely like the larger number of drawers on these chests vs the Husky and Canadian Tire stuff.

Thanks!

Ive looked at these in person and they're really underwhelming.

It's been a while but I was looking for a box to supplement my 41"x18" international box.

I ended up getting a 54" Carlyle for sub $1000 this past summer from Napa.PXL_20210714_025156814.jpg

Wow, that’s a serious deal, I see the current price is around $2500 and the matching top is $1800… both of those are “on sale” prices at 10% off!

Thanks for the info on the KMS box… what did you not like about it?

Home Depot has the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Mid-torque impact wrench on sale for $199 ($100 off). This has been the lowest price that I know for this impact wrench. To non-professionals, I would recommend the friction ring anvil rather than the detention ball anvil.

This new version has 3 LED lights so it should illuminate the work area better than the previous version. Although, I prefer the metal casing on the previous version.

The M12 3/8" stubby impact bare tool is also on sale for $149 CAD ($50 off). Not sure I've seen it that low before either.

Of course, I don't have any 3/8" impact sockets and using an adapter and running my 1/2" sockets kind of defeats the purpose of small/stubby not to mention the torque loss......

But I notice the Sunex 3/8" full kit on Amazon is only $132.

You guys are going to cost me some money 😃

Cdn Tire has the extra long flex box end wrenches on sale for $149

Cdn tire flex box end
I have the fixed-head versions of those wrenches - they're great! Maybe I need to workout, but I like working with XL wrenches. It's easier and it seems like I can get a better feel for when a fastener is tight. Combining the deep non-ratcheting box end for strength with a ratchet end to make working with an XL wrench a little faster... fantastic.

Good price at Amazon on Makita interlocking cases. I have two for my track saw and accessories. Fine for occasional use items like that. For tools I use a lot, T-Loc Systainers are much handier to open, close, and stack.

New Princess Auto flyer out today. Always an exciting moment for me. 😄

Few random deals to peak your interest:

$17 for a 6000 lumen LED bulb - I might grab a couple of these for my shop. That's a lot of light.
extra_large.jpg

$11 heat gun - I have a Powerfist one that looks just like this except it has a dual range switch (this says dial). No complaints from me. Going strong the last four years.

8259210_A0CG_00_01.jpg

$10 self-mutilation machine, for those of you with too many appendages.

extra_large.jpg

This $48 rotary tumbler is new! Might get one for bolt/small part cleanup. sale price on the larger vibratory tumbler too.

extra_large.jpg

I didn't know PA sells a forge. That's neat. Looks decent too.

Not bad. It's been on sale for $599 at Canadian Tire before, so it could go lower. Home Depot used to carry that brand too, but I'm not seeing that saw on their website.

Interesting saw. Looks like it gets good reviews. Seems like a sort of middle ground between portability and power to me - e.g. You could get a lighter Dewalt or Ridgid 10" saw with a rolling stand for cheaper, but the gear ratio on the wormdrive seems aimed at increasing torque - more like a non-folding shop table saw.

I think it depends on how much you want this saw in particular. Home Depot always has a table saw deal this time of year (usually Dewalt and sometimes also Ridgid), so if you're just after a deal it might be worth waiting to see what's on offer.

Thank you for the reply. I’m looking at doing some projects around home pretty quick, and with this saw being somewhat compact and a decent saw i think im gonna pull the trigger tomorrow.

What is your opinion on this Husqvarna Blower? I thinking we could make use of it at the lake. It isn’t a monster but I’m generally not in a hurry when at the cabin.

Your friend shared a deal with you on Flipp! Tap the link to see this deal and other great savings near you.

Husqvarna stuff is generally very good, although the ones they sell at Canadian Tire are not quite as good as what you’d find at an equipment dealer. Definitely good enough for a homeowner. I bought a lawnmower from Canadian Tire this summer and it is excellent.
I wouldn’t hesitate to buy that one if I needed a new snowblower.

Black Friday continues to disappoint this year. Not many "crazy good" deals, nor do there seem to be as many deals period.

Nevertheless, here's a few things I think are interesting from Home Depot this year:

Husky 52" Tool Chest for $798

p_1001057591.jpg
That's a lot of space for the money. It's the cheapest 52" I can recall seeing. Keep in mind though, this probably isn't super heavy duty. I have a 46" Husky chest for example - and the full width drawer loaded up with sockets and ratchets... it's a lot of weight. No signs of failure, but I don't slam it around. I think they have a 3 year warranty - so that might help in the case of failure.

Bottom line, if you're wrenching professionally I don't think this will stand up. If you're using it for your home shop - that's probably the most space per dollar you're likely to see.

Two-pack of Milwaukee anodized aluminum trim squares for $20
p_1001580561.jpg
These are both great - but I particularly like the little one. Fits in a pocket but still makes it across most 2x material. Very handy and well made.

4-pack of Bessey clutch clamps for $29
p_1000833691.jpg
These are just some solid, inexpensive clamps. They work well and I like them.

There's the usual good buys for consumables like reciprocating saw blades (the Milwaukee multi-pack is particularly good), drill bits, angle grinder discs etc. I just picked what I thought was the cream of the crop rather than re-post the whole BF section.

Oh, thought of something else. I was in Home Depot the other day and they have M12 2.0ah batteries in the promo aisles for $30. Pretty great price if you ask me. I picked one up for a backup for my heated hoodie.

MHC is having a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale. 10% off (which isn't huge), but seems to apply to most things.
