Interested in this too. Right now best deals and easiest shipping in Canada is Amazon, that I've found. A dedicated tool store would be nice.

I’ve bought from BC Fasteners, Mississauga Hardware, IHL Canada and Atlas Machinery... no issues with any of them. There’s also Blackrock tools but I’ve never ordered anything from them.

IRtools.ca is decent to deal with too. I recently ordered a package deal of 3/8th and 1/2” air impact guns that got me a 3/8th Air ratchet for free if I had to buy at a local store.

Amazon for a lot other stuff. I do plan to order my IR air chisel as well stubby impact gun there. Die grinder kit too since it comes in a nice little case!

I generally don't waste my time with buying tools online in Canada. Amazon.ca is a joke in terms of pricing and selection. The main advantage of buying off KMS is that it's a one stop brick and mortar store that takes care of your warranty problems for many name brands. Also their pricing on certain things that they sell a lot of is reasonable. KMS is more of a brick and mortar store for me. Their online store needs a lot of work. I ordered an item online once, it was supposed to be in stock but was not and I was not informed that it was on back order. This is in addition to one or two incidents I had when I dealt with them in store, so they are not the most diligent guys out there.

The same applies to Princess Auto when it comes to the exchange policy. I only use Amazon.ca to buy Tekton tools and items that neither the tool trucks nor local suppliers have if I don't care about warranty and the pricing isn't too bad.

Strong disagree about Amazon.ca . Some of my best deals on toola have been there. Got full sets of SK 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 for about $400 totall. They just had deals on Sunex impacts 25% off too. You just have to keep your eyes open and they come along

There used to be more online only tool stores in Canada but they have gone out of business. Babco was a local one that had Armstrong, SK and a lot of automotive specialty tools

There is nothing really fancy or modern about online up here. Just somebody telling the new guy at the back of the brick and mortar store to put the item in a box and they will ship it out in a day or 2 with Puralotor or whoever. As soon as the item leaves the store, the customer has to deal with the shipper in case of any problems.

Probably take advantage of Amazon.ca while their tool inventory lasts. I think they bought a lot of inventory years ago and that stock will not get replaced. Think Proto, Wright, SK, Williams, OTC and other fairly expensive US brands that do not have a high turnover

jccayer but they're pretty sketchy
blackrocktools I've had decent results with as a drop shipper and you can still actually call for real customer service

Honestly most of the time though, amazon.ca is where it's at. Just watch prices (leave items in your cart) and eventually they'll drop to prices you will never see in the big box stores.

Otherwise I shop at the local stores (napa, princess, tsc, home depot, lowes, canadian tire, etc.)

I agree with these assessments of Amazon, depending on the tool I find great deals from them. Especially on cordless power tools, way cheaper than in-store. Also random specialty tools / automotive kits, if you're not picky on brand, you can score some really good deals.

I also second places like NAPA / Princess / Canadian Tire locally. I hate CT's power tools and air tools, but when it comes to hand tools like sockets and wrenches, it's hard to beat their on-sale pricing. Their Maximum line stuff is sourced from pretty good companies (like GearWrench) and you can regularly get it 50+% off.

Same here, I am a Millwright by trade, hobbyist gearhead.

All my sockets and wrenches have come from CT, Cordless tools come from Home Depot (Ridgid), Air Tools from Amazon (Ingersoll Rand) and I buy lots from Princess Auto.

It may just be a local issue but the staff at my Princess Auto consistently *****. Even worse than our Home Depots.

I can totally understand staff not being knowledgeable of many products but their not give a **** attitude irks me.

My local PA I haven't noticed that. I wouldn't say the staff are that technically knowledgeable, but they are at least polite and helpful to point to where things are.

It's definitely a symptom of the price point they sell at though. Selling bargain priced tools isn't going to generate the highest paid staff, which isn't going to generate the best employees.

Technically unknowledgeable I can accept. As long as they make an attempt to look it up, ask a colleague or at the very LEAST, point me in the right direction. I’ve had “associates” who say they “don’t know” and walk away. Heaven forbid you ask them a follow up question.....

I understand though that employees of bargain priced businesses sometimes have to deal with a more undesirable customer base. (Like me)[emoji23]
