They store vertically

Here is the latch. Notice how it floats with the uneven ground preventing a bind up. You can also see the difference in the KBS coating on the stand and the powdercoat on the ramp. The powdercoat is far better looking IMO.

Here is the latch unhooked. Just spin the nut and it swings off of the top of the bolt.
Used grade 10.9 bolts on this latch. The adjustable tire stop uses grade 8 bolts.
All these bolts are made by Lake Erie bolt here in Indiana.

Amazing idea came to me when I saw your picture of the ramps standing on end. Make a bracket to attach the two ramps 180 degrees from each other, call it 'nested'. Like this: l\ \l . Saves that much more floor space. If you don't want to disturb the paint anymore, you could tie them together and stick them in a corner.

I have seen them stacked like this before

Knowing my luck, the one with the wedge pointing down would come undone and fall.
I might do this some time in the future though if I found a space they fit well like this.

Very nice build Alan!! I have a pile of 2" x 1/4" angle that I ahve been dying to use for something and this maybe it. Some casters on end may help moving ehn stacked.

Good luck if you try the build. It is a lot of work.

Just remember that 2"x2"x1/4" angle weights 3.19lbs per foot.
Took around 120 foot for mine. 120 foot times 3.19 is 383lbs.

you know, drivers door a different length then the passengers.

Yes storage is a consideration that needs to be thought thru if you are interested in buying or making some. For now i am happy with the way they store. besides if i have them side by side like in the last picture, they make me think of a Christmas tree . Might put lights on next year.

Speaking of lights. One idea i had that i never followed thru on. Thought of putting a 110volt light on the bottom of one of the stands. Think of a automotive style fog light, something like that. I could just have a short 1' section of cord attached to the back of the light. Pull down my retractable cord from the ceiling and have a light that shines on the bottom of the car. The craziness in my brain never ends.

I personally wouldn't use those with my truck. I tip the scales around 7000 lbs. and most of the weight is over the front axle. I collapsed a cheap-o jack last week when jacking up the REAR, and I just wouldn't feel safe working under those with that much weight over my head.

It's a great concept though, I'd like to build something similar with some thicker angle iron and make them a wider for stability.

Nice design. I love the roller stop at the end of the ramp.

Add bar across from one ramp two the other. This will add stability and make that much safer.

I'm to lazy to run the numbers, but those ramps will hold anything you could drive without a cdl.

Nice job on them. I see no need to safety nazi the hell out of it. Looks like they're already strong enough to drive a dumptruck over. If they were one piece, you could have mounted offset wheels at the tall end for moving them around.

Just got through re-reading this thread - having used the ramps for some time, is there anything you would have done differently? Considering a set of ramps/stands for a winter project if things ever slow down at work.

I have a retaining wall made from 2'x2'x4' solid concrete blocks with catwalk from a factory on top forming 2 outriggers supported by the blocks and uprights made from 2x2 steel tubing, use your imagination as I **** at basic computer picture skills.
So 2' plus the 6" high catwalk puts the drive on surface at 2' 6" and lots of room to work underneath.
I first tested this out with 2"x4"s under each end and drove up onto to check the load/flex.
I've had this system for 10+ years and no negative issues.

I build one from 40x40x4mm angle + 12mm Armature + 25x4mm metall band.

Height ~27cm, length 50cm (under wheel) + 170cm. Already tested with HONDA HR-V 2000, Volvo V40 1.8l 1997, Mazda 6 1.8l 2007, need to paint. Sorry for bad photos.

Ran across this thread again looking for other things. How are the ramps/stands holding up? Any changes you would make to the design? I plan to build some similar stands soon enough.
