Had my eye on a set from Lawson Products, but the gentleman from drillbitwarehouse.com says his are "the best carbide bits made in USA". Any opinions? ....DUH)
Why single flute? Wouldn't that lead to flex, chatter and an uneven hole? A single cutting edge is OK on a side-loaded tool such as a router bit, where you aren't going to get even cutting. But wouldn't you prefer balanced cutting from two or more flutes?
ENCO has all kinds of drills. I am waiting to get my single flute carbide bit from Norseman.
Single-flute drills aka "die drills" are designed for drilling hard materials. They're stronger than standard twist drills. They have a much larger cross section, which makes them more rigid and stronger.
