there is "allegedly" a student discount, but after signing up all I ever get is spam from the Carlyle Club, nothing to write home about.

I don't own any of their tools myself, but if you bust anything there are probably few places without a NAPA, and it's open at least 6 days a week.

rodriguez21,

Here is a GJ thread where members post pictures of their latest NAPA Carlyle hand tool purchase(s) and any durability/reliability issues during use: LINK.

I don't have any Carlyle stuff myself. A buddy of mine has several Carlyle 1/4" ratchets. He really likes them. He'll take them any day over a Craftsman 1/4". I've used them a few times when I've been at his shop. I completely agree with him. It's a lot better made ratchet. I'll admit that even if I do prefer my Snap On over it.

I believe he has a set of wrenches that aren't to bad either. He seems to like them pretty good.

I've had a set of their metric long wrenches for a couple of years. I am very happy with them and would recommend them without reservation. I have not tried any of their other tools.

I have a couple of Carlyle 90 tooth comfort grip ratchets that quickly became my reach for first ratchets that have served me well over the last couple of years. I also have metric long pattern wrenches and metric chrome sockets in 1/4 and 3/8 drive. I haven't had any issues with fit/quality/durability. If you get them on sale or have a commercial account with NAPA, I think Carlyle tools can be a great value that will serve you well.

I have the 60 tooth three piece ratchet set from Napa that was $49.00. They replaced some of my newer craftsman ratchets. They do the job and seem pretty sturdy.

Most Napa stores that are around me don't stock many Carlyle tools so if you break something you may need to wait a day or so to get a replacement.

My local store carries what appears to be the full line. Behind the counter. Asshats. Since they assume me to be a shoplifter, I assume they dont want my money and I move on.

Though you may not be a shoplifter, there are a lot of them out there. If you were the store owner and it was your merchandise disappearing, you might understand.

I have a few Carlyle tools and they are good quality but I find them to be a little $$. I prefer Williams USA, SK or my favorite sleeper Blackhawk for the $$.

IMO Most AutoPart stores are severely under manned, at any given time 75% of the work force is on the phone price checking while tapping on there computer, it would be a bloodbath in regards to sticky fingers and Loss. As far back as I can remember, whether it was SK, Blackhawk, KD and Now Carlye most auto part stores have always kept the full store lineup behind the counter, It's just good business.

Most of the Advance auto stores around me keep the Gearwrench stuff behind the counter. And only one Napa near me even has any Carlyle tools and they are behind the counter as well.

Don't take it personal. When I was a kid the auto parts stores had SK tool boards behind the counter. NAPAs back then had red New Britan tools boards behind the counter. Hell, in the 1980s I remember Rocket Auto Parts had their Easco tool boards behind the counter and above reaching height, the parts guy had to use a step ladder if you wanted something.

Since all the tools are behind the counter I usually steal jugs of mobil1.

I have the carlyle 3/8 roto head 100 toother and it is a nice ratchet. it was located behind the counter too so I had to pay $100 to get it a couple years ago.

if you can sit through his long winded rambling that makes every review video he does at least 3 times longer than it needs to be

If paying for shipping is an issue you can order from Home Depot online and have it shipped to your local store and pick it up there, no shipping charge.
