Learned today that people are cutting cast iron pans into spatulas. Let’s make one for my father’s Christmas present.
Planned out the cuts on a scrappy pan.

PC, I’m guessing they make pretty solid cool spatulas for the grill. Imagine a straight edged one on a flat top…
Plus, there is a ton of cast out there that no one wants anymore. I’m in!

Shiftless, I’ll try to stick with only cutting up beat less desirable cast. Hopefully I can recognize the collectible cast from the non.

I'd have to use one before making a final judgement.

However, there have been grills and spatulas forever and I've never seen a cast iron spatula before today. Maybe, there's a reason why not?

I would think it would be too heavy to want to use regularly, but I'd have to use one to know if I liked it or not as well. Personally, I like pretty thin blades on for the grill/griddle, mine are made by Dexter, nice thin blades but still fairly stiff.

even if not used often, it would be great looking to just hang on the wall next to the grill, and possibly use it as a bacon press, haha

For true. For fifty years, I've been using several sizes of Dexter offset and straight spatulas. Just used the large offset 8" x 3" S8698 this morning to turn pancakes.

Do we want that on our pans?
Didn't know it was a thing, had to look it up as I've never seen one.

Edit: not sure how I missed the chromium finished in the first few pics.....

Here’s the final before wrapping and tossing it under the tree.
First good grill test I’ll be sure to report back. Fingers crossed it’s not too awkward, heavy, hot, stiff, or the food reacts unfavorably to the chromium. Merry Christmas GarageJournal!

Mike93lx, my father’s I used once this summer and totally forgot to get back to this thread with a review. Flipped the burgers and dragged the sausages around just fine. I didn’t find it heavy or bulky, but I can see where a little flex might help at times. Overall, this is a fine addition to your spatula quiver. And I didn’t even taste the chromium.
