How does this work? Can you order online and have it shipped to your house? I've always had to order and pick up from my local dealer he in the Chicago suburb.

Thanks. Ordered a set of metric wrenches a few socket sets. Are all of the sockets Snap-on or are some Williams or another manufacturer? It's hard to tell from the poor photos on the website.

Wish I could find a 1/4" drive 12 point deep socket set on that terrible website lol.
I looked the other day and got fed up and quit. Tried to find a PDF catalog but couldn't find anything on my phone.

No, I had to type in a zip code and select a cat delealership

Ahhh...my fault. I didn't see the little check box to accept the terms at the bottom after selecting my store. I just saw the "Select Store" button grayed out...

As said, download the PDF of the catalog that's linked above. Then type in the PNs on the Cat website. There is another Cat tools dedicated thread that details what is the same as Snap On. Yes, a lot of the pictures on the Cat website are terrible and also outdated, but tools are obviously an afterthought for their business.

Has anyone made a purchase? I was going to purchase a socket set. The website was adding $85 for a handling fee to send it to the dealership. I did not make the purchase. If these are snap-on sockets it's a great deal without the discount. However, I'm stubborn and will not pay $85 for handling.

I got irritated and gave up since my local dealer didn't support the code.

You're welcome; thank you for posting the code. I've been waiting for a while to place a CAT order.

I referenced the 1/4" standard 12pt set above. There's no socket-only set for that combo, but if people don't want the ratchet/case/attachments, you can also piece together the individual sockets; parts numbers are 9S-1711 through 9S-1719.

I did not. I signed up for an account prior to checkout, but there was a guest checkout option. Account creation happened right away.
Also, I was able to search for the zip and select the dealer to see all the pricing prior to account creation.

Weird. It won’t take the 20% off of the sockets I want to order (1/2” deep 12pt Metric and 6pt SAE). Even though it has the banner at the top of the screen.

I tried also, and was denied. It said the code must be 1-10 characters, but upon entering the 10th character, it shows the code is to long.

Register for a account and then it gives you a place to put the coupon code.

I did that. It accepted it once, then didn’t take anything off. Then, on another attempt, it just says the code is invalid. Now I can’t even log in. I’m thinking the website is probably having issues today.

And upon contacting support and sending them a screen shot, they responded with saying it would be handled by my local dealer.

I've discovered this CAT dealer has some better images for some of the CAT tools.

Wanted to add my $.02 to this thread since it helped me out, along with this one (https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/cat-tools.532655/page-2)

I have the pleasure of moving to a new location to work on cars, but my existing tool set needs to stay behind, so I am building out a new set of tools. I am paying for them so I don't have a golden credit card, but they are for work so I wanted a "prosumer" or "heritage" set of sockets among other tools. Ive used USA craftsman for many years and don't know any better for pro tools or otherwise exotic tools. That lead me to searching and finding this thread.

I compared:
CAT
Williams
Wright
Snap On direct
Gearwrench
Icon
Wera
Koken

I was looking at only 6 point, in shallow, semi, and deep lengths, in all 3 drive sizes.

As of this post, I haven't done 1/2" yet, but my goal is to do them soon

The Result:
if you want USA made chrome 3/8 and 1/4 drive sockets, this is the best deal going that I can find.

The SHOPTOOL20 discount is happening until March 2026, and it makes these an even better "deal"

I spent way too much time on a google spreadsheet with all of this data, not sure if the forum will allow me to link, or if it goes away over time. Spreadsheet Link

The results summarized:

If you want the cheapest, ICON or GearWrench, both made in Taiwan, are good bets. Both end up around $3.33 per tool, and have a good range of sizes. Both offer semi-deep in 3/8, and GW offers semi-deep in 1/4.

For Semi-Deep, Snap on is your only choice for USA made. I decided to get GW in the 1/4 size (since icon doesnt offer yet), and Icon in the 3/8 size because they are slightly shorter overall than the GW ones. I have the GW ones in my old tool box, so I can always switch if I end up not liking the slightly shorter icons. I will add the 6 and 7mm GW since Icon does't include those sizes but GW does.

If you want nicer, Cat and Williams, are the next step up. CAT is $6 per tool and Williams is about $6.30 per tool. These are USA made at the Snap On location (rumor? many threads here and elsewhere indicate this, with some video and further evidence, so I believe it but YMMV).

The next step up are Wright and Wera. Both are around $10 per tool. Wera is made in Europe, so you may not want to get involved. They are also considered by some a "boutique" tool mfg, but I get the advent calendar and like the colored sockets. They have held up for me in regular automotive use just fine. Both have limited selection of sizes as well, with Wera favoring Metrics and Wright favoring SAE, but you would really only get a "core" set of sizes and configurations in both.

The final step is Koken and Snap on. Koken was around $12 per tool, and has the BEST selection by far. If you want a socket set with every conceiveable size and drive and type all by the same company, Koken is your pick. They have everything.

Snap on I didn't even calculate. Even used, it would be more than Koken based on ebay prices.

If you want the cheapest USA made set, get CAT plus buy the williams 1/4 sae short set.

To go one further though, I calcuated that if you buy CAT sets (limited sizes) and add on the extras from Williams, you get a cohesive looking set of sockets all made at the same location, with a full array of sizes. If you want to pad out your sizes to fill up your hansen tray, even though its absurd and you will never need a 5mm 3/8 drive or a 26mm 3/8 drive or a 1/8 1/4 drive, you can get a good deal This way.
This holds true for ALL 1/4 and 3/8 configurations EXCEPT the 3/8 SAE DEEP, which is about $25 cheaper than CAT even with the 20% deal.
Without the 20% deal, you will need to recalculate and I suppose that Williams would become cheaper overall.

For me, in Jan 2026:

I bought the Combo of all 7 CAT arrays, plus 1 Williams array, plus extras. I paid the $25 extra for the SAE DEEP cat set for science sake.
I bought ALL The avalable sizes in the williams catalog, even though I bet I will NEVER use some of these sizes. I splurged, give it to me.

I ended up with 4-15 and 1/8-5/8 in 1/4 drive, and 6mm-25/26mm and 1/4-1" in 3/8 drive, so even more than the hansen trays allow:

Hansen sizes in 1/4
144mm, 4.5mm, 5mm, 5.5mm, 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 9mm, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm
131/8, 5/32, 3/16, 7/32, 1/4, 9/32, 5/16, 11/32, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16 & 5/8

Hansen sizes in 3/8
156mm, 7mm, 8mm, 9mm, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 16mm, 17mm, 18mm, 19mm & 20mm
131/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 3/4, 13/16, 7/8, 15/16 and 1″

I added to that on the Metric side with a 5.5 deep, plus 22, 23, 24, and 25 deep, and 21, 22, 23, 24 and 26 shallow in 3/8 drive.
I will need to 3d print a tray for them or something.

I also added the 2 spark plug sockets.

So over all I added 38 sockets to the CAT offerings, plus added the 11 piece 6 point shallow set from williams (Cat only offers 12 point shallow in 1/4).
Add that to the CAT sockets (70 pcs)

I ended up with 119 sockets and paid about $800 with tax and shipping (I also orded some other tools from CAT like pliers and screwdrivers so its a bit blurry.) That comes to about $6.72 per socket on average Out The Door, or effectivley Double what ICON or GW cost.

The williams tools are ordered from Suncoast Precision tools in Largo florida. They were cheaper overall on individual williams tools and since I ordered so many, the shipping was compensated for.

If you order the full sets, Abolox LLC in Palm Bay FL seems to be a couple % cheaper and has free shipping over a certain amount, which you will hit on multiple sets.

Edit:
I forgot to add. I used Suncoast tools because they have a GREAT catalog that is hyperlinked to each part. If you want to buy any williams tools this thing is amazing. https://www.suncoasttools.com/PDFFILES/Williams/WILLIAMSCATALOG.pdf

This website has much better photos of the CAT sets, along with listing the PN of each socket within each set. (credit @Nekit in previous post)

Also, if you want to complete the sizes, you need to get the following from Snap On, as Williams doesn't offer:
Need from SNAP ON ONLY
TMM41/4 Metric Shallow 4.5
TMM161/4 Metric Shallow 16
STMM4.51/4 Metric Deep 4.5
STMM151/4 Metric Deep 15
STM041/4 SAE Deep 1/8
Not made in SO. Blue Point BLPLS14581/4 SAE Deep 5/8
FSM2513/8 Metric Shallow 25
SFSM213/8 Metric Deep 21

Tools were ready at the Cat dealer next day, even with adverse weather this week.

Only purchase I am disappointed in is the pocket screwdriver, it gets a “do not buy” from me since CAT omitted the pocket clip and the magnet

Sockets look exactly as expected, vert high quality, just covered in a sticky protective coating that needs to be cleaned off.
