The website redneckvtech posted is very useful to check current images, thanks!

I spent a little time looking through the catalogue and feel I can contribute a few numbers some may find fun or useful:

The previously posted 1/4 SAE set is nice (213-4443), but I have more use for metric, and there is a metric kit!

SAE 1/4 kit: 213-4443: 213-4443_3_2400x1595.jpg

here is the metric kit (233-1642): ~$140 USD, take note of the "s" logo on the plastic lid and take note it is not in a tin box: IMG_7142_2104x2400.jpg

Interestingly, like the 1/4 driver from the 1/4 kit, you can piecemeal order, so: you can order just the metal 1/4 drive set box for ~$26 usd:

PN 9S-1725.

Up next is a scraper for ~$9 USD: PN 8H-8580 8H-8580_1_2400x1092.jpg

next is a metal tool box PN 9U-6219 ~$63 USD: about 9" x 9" x 20" C681828.jpg

Next are my thoughts on wrenches:

I am looking to get the pn 1U-5545 metric set (6mm to 19mm 14 piece set) for about $190 USD.

The williams supercombo set pn JHWMWS-15A is ~ $ 230 USD (7mm to 21mm 15 piece set).

Adding on a 21mm CAT pn 6V-9101 for about $30 gets you a cat branded 15 piece set for ~ $220 ranging from 6-21mm skipping 20mm, so slightly different from the williams branded set.

Finally, the "customer appreciation kit" would make a nice travel/car tool kit, but I think a little pricey for something living in a trunk. It is PN 497-8174 and costs approximately $760 USD. here it is: IMG_6416_2400x1800.jpg

FYI that if you want everything in the 213-4443 kit and both metric and SAE, it's cheaper to buy 213-4443.
Metal box ~$26
The two added adapters and driver handle are all ~$12-13 each (x3)

Metric socket set alone is ~$66; you can piece together the SAE set for ~$30. So it's about $27-28 cheaper to buy 213-4443 plus 200-8413 (the metric set) if you want everything (all pricing before 20% discount).

Your other option is to just buy 213-4443 and piece together the SAE set with singles and that will come to about $96 before discount. So the extensions/adapters/box/ratchet/driver handle are costing you about $96. I probably would have done this and added a $13 driver handle if I had it to do over again; not sure the ratchet/extensions/adapters/box are worth that cost.

Torx Bits comparison:
CAT TORX 194-3584 is a 9pc in my opinion, the inclusion of the E8 is weird. Its a mixed drive set and is missing the T27 in my opinion, obv CAT doesn't use that size fastener. its $60 from my dealer. Adding the Williams T27 (MADE IN TAIWAN) JHW35084 in 1/4" drive is $7 (exc shipping, etc).

1770309980319.png

Williams Torx is avaiable only as solid size sets, so would need to buy individuals to make a matching set, or buy both the 1/4 and 3/8 set with some overlap. Also, these are MADE IN TAIWAN.
JHW30908 is 1/4 T10-T30
JHW31910 is 3/8 T25-T50 (T55 is not offered)
Overlap is T25, T27, and T30 in both 1/4 and 3/8, and T55 is missing, and not USA sourced.
1770309841444.png

1770309936704.png

I would recommend going with the CAT and adding SO for the T27 (TTX27E) at $40 or find used.

431-1522 - 9pc Torx Driver (Hard Handles) $173 at my dealer. Not a good deal IMO.

Screwdriver Comparison

233-1640 5pc screwdriver set $46 at my dealer
Western doesn't list PN but based on Ecotec's photo this is:
6v-7933
6v-7934
6v-7935
6v-7936
525-8019
1770307912569.png
1770307297909.png

162-7804 6pc screwdriver set $64 at my dealer (+$18)
This adds the 3/8" flat driver (6v-7932) which is only $14 at my dealer
The 3/16 in the 5pc set is the short one (525-8019) and in the 6pc set its the long one (6v-7937)

so IMO you are better off with the 5pc and adding the larger driver separately, because you also get the plastic tray and save $4
You can also add the short 3/16 screwdriver (525-8019) for $16, but probably not worth that. Better to go for the 9u-7290 and get the #1 phillips again for $21

1770307865398.png

Short flat blade 6v-9738 $8 my dealer, not offered in any s
1770307790915.png

525-8019 "flat tip screwdriver tool" $16 my dealer
Appears to come in 5pc set according to a photo in the other thread.
1770307817340.png

2pc set 9u-7290 $21
1770307801874.png

277-8790 Square Shank Flat head $26 at my dealer (not offered in any set)
1770307444436.png

9u-7291 Ratcheting 5bit driver ($62)
1770307521788.png

So screwdrivers in general:
6v-9124 = pocket = not good since it misses important features
6v-7932 through 7938 are hardhandle equivalents
277-8790 = square shank driver
9u-7290 = 2pc screwdriver set
9u-7291 = ratcheting driver = not good since its no longer snap on form, better off with williams for less $

All the screwdriver PN in one photo I think (from other thread, credit to @ecotec )
Missing 277-8790

HEX Sockets Comparison.

CAT Metric set = 194-3485 = $82 at my dealer
1770315194724.png
1770315171725.png

These skip sizes, important ones in my opinion, but they do appear to be true Snap On with the gold hex shafts, except the 17mm?
missing 6mm, which is an important size. 9, 11, 13 not so common. To get the sizes I need, I will need to add Snap On 6mm and potentially a 19mm (trans drain plug on some stuff). FAM6E is $33 so that makes the sets about the same cost.
SHRM19 is probably what i'll go with for the drain plug, its only $43 instead of the $82 for the standard style SAM19E.

The Williams sockets for metric are made in Taiwan, so the CAT deal looks to be a good buy. To get the same sizes, you would spend $110 and the tools are not made in USA.

Williams offers only solid size sets (1/4 or 3/8 or 1/2)

The 3/8 set is $37 and goes from 4-10 without skips.
1770315339858.png

The 1/2 set is $65 and goes from 10-19 with skips (of uncommon sizes, so not a big deal). All the common sizes are included.
1770315431415.png

Metric Ball Set 243-5182 = $93 at my dealer
1770316005403.png

1770316023221.png
This set does cover the missing sizes of the standard set. It appears to be snap on based on the knurling.

CAT SAE set = 214-6142 = $93 at my dealer
Western does not list this so no great photo is available. This also means its unclear which PN are specifically included, the description is vague.
Attributes:
• 10 sockets and socket rail
• 3/8 inch drive sizes 1/8 to 3/8 inch hex bits
• 1/2 inch drive sizes 1/2 to 5/8 inch hex bits
• Can be ordered separately

Interestingly, Williams does offer USA made SAE hex bits, but they are more expensive than the CAT ones.
JHWSBS10RC is a similar mixed drive set with 10pcs, 7 3/8 from 1/8-3/8 and 3 1/2 from 1/2-5/8. I would put good money these are the same sets/tools. Snap on doesnt offer gold bits for SAE tools in my understanding.
1770316306673.png

CAT SAE Ball End Set = 246-8499 = $94 at my dealer
1770316534228.png
1770316608433.png

This is an 8pc mixed drive set

Williams only offers solid sets.
JHWWSBB7RC is a USA Made 3/8 drive set offering similar sizes for a bit less money, if this covers what you need.
missing are 3/16, 9/64, and 7/32 which are fairly uncommon in my experience. 3/16 and 7/32 are made and can be added for about $10 each (JHWBA-6A and JHWBA-7A)
1770316755963.png

The 1/4 set covers those sizes but has many more as well, so ends up being more expensive. (at attachment limit so look up JHWWSM-11TRC) its an 11pc set from 1/8-5/16

Ratchet Wrench Comparison.
NOTE: CAT does not specify USA made, and the Williams are made in Taiwan, so I'd guess these are all offshore production. For me thats probably a pass, but YMMV.

CAT 248-8819 METRIC 8-19mm 12pc set = $226 at my dealer
1770317668908.png
1770317644781.png

Williams Jhwmws-12Rc is an identical set from a sizing perspective. Wrench lengths appear to be identical as well (maybe some rounding?) Currently looks to be $170 on sale at SCPT, so seems like a much better deal unless you want your tools to say CAT.
1770317789089.png

248-8810: 8 Piece Combination Fractional Wrench Set = $160 at my dealer

1770318269212.png
Western does not list this, and CAT's description *****, but the photo is clear enough we can see its 8 tools:

5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 3/4

Williams offers an identical set, currently on sale for $120. Jhwws-1168Rc

Williams does offer USA made supercombo reversible ratchet wrenches in Metric and SAE.

Pricey, but still cheaper than Snap On FDX and made in USA.

Metric
JHWMWS10RCU is $360 for a 10pc set (Plus add the 8 and 9 for $49) JHW1209MRCU and JHW1208MRCU

SAE
JHWWS1170RCU is $220 for a 7pc set (plus add the 5/16 JHW1210RCU for $23)

It seems to me that the SAE Open Angle Wrench Sets are a real deal. The two 7pc sets are $100 less than the one 14pc set that covers the same sizes?

7pc SAE (3/8" to 3/4") 233-1635 and 7pc SAE (13/16" to 1-1/4") 233-1636 for $305 before discount (Snap-on 14pc set is $1035)

14pc Metric Set is 559-3896 for $544 before discount (Snap-on 14pc set is $920) (Proto 11pc on Zoro is $266 before discounts)

--------

Chrome Sockets are priced as well... 1/4" - 3/8" - 1/2" 6pt Metric Short & Deep Sets (1/2" deep are 12pt) are $316 before discount. ICON not on sale price is $259 for the same sets. If you can get Snap-on sockets for ICON prices, that seems like a good buy to me.

214-6620 553-1198 200-8413 194-3578 199-6156 199-6156

---------

CAT SAE 11pc Combination Wrench Set 4C-9600 $220 before discount vs Snap-on OEX711B $663 After closer look, these may be Williams
CAT Metric 10pc Combination Wrench Set 233-1632 $154 before discount vs Snap-on OEXM710B $495 After closer look, these my be Williams

--------
CAT SAE 1/2" Drive 11pc Short Impact Sockets 213-3086 $82 before discount vs Snap-on 311IMYA $307
CAT SAE 1/2" Drive 12pc Deep Impact Sockets 213-3515 $105 before discount vs Snap-on 313SIMA $643 (1 more pc)

CAT Metric 1/2" Drive 12pc Short Impact Sockets 213-6923 $111 before discount vs Snap-on 310IMMYA $230 (2 less pc)
CAT Metric 1/2" Drive 11pc Deep Impact Sockets 214-6643 $92 before discount vs Snap-on 310SIMMYA $372 (1 less pc)

CAT SAE 1/2" Drive 14pc Short Impact Universal Socket Set 246-8184 $307 before discount seems like a great buy

Did you take advantage of the rewards program?
1769145008877.png
Has anyone been able to earn Cat Credits from this Cat Vantage Rewards offer?

I downloaded the Cat Central app, and on the home page there's a banner right at the top of the page:
"Click to Earn $100 in Cat Credits with a $250 purchase. Qualify once per month until Mar 31, 2026."

I tried tapping that banner, nothing happens. There is no button or link to follow. I went ahead and added about $300 worth of items to my cart ($300 before shipping, taxes), and went through to the final screen before purchase. There is no mention anywhere that my purchase would earn any Cat Credits.

Here's the link to the offer on the Caterpillar website:
https://parts.cat.com/en/catcorp/centennial-vantage-offer
No buttons or links here either.
When I'm logged in, under Account there is no mention anywhere of Cat Credits or Cat Vantage Rewards. If I'd earned any points, I don't see where the points balance would be shown.

I updated my original post above, but FYI - the seal pick is no longer Snap-on; it's CAT-branded made in Germany. Pic here: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/cat-tools.532655/page-9#post-11511861

Also, the metric hex socket set are gold, but the SAE are black. And despite what the CAT site says, the metric set does include a 6mm.
I'm looking at the ball end hex socket sets... were yours rebranded Snap-on USA stock? I don't want to end up with Blue-Point/Williams Taiwan ones if spending that much.

I don't have the ball end sets, but so far as I can tell my regular sets are Snap-on equivalent. They are marked USA and have what appear to be Snap-on date codes.

I will say that I've noticed the finishing is inconsistent within my sets - not necessarily better or worse, but from socket to socket there is some variance between high-polished chrome and a bit more of a matte look.

Any chance you can post some photos showing the finish variance in the sets you bought? Are you referring to your hex socket sets, or 6pt/12pt socket sets as well?

I'm looking at making a big purchase very similar to the list you gave in post #17 (by the way, thanks for posting all those part numbers).

Not the best lighting, but hopefully these help.

On this set the 15mm is matte. 12 and 13 are polished. 14 somewhere in between but closer to polished. 16 and 17 are matte at the base and polished above:
cat1.jpg

On these hex sockets, all are matte but 7/32 is polished (note the hex bits are black; photo is a bit misleading in that regard):
cat2.jpg

I haven't seen any functional issues with the chroming, just noting that the visuals are inconsistent for people who might care about that sort of thing. And it may not be so much the chroming as the underling finishing of the metal to which the chrome is applied.

Getting ready to place an order for some socket sets. Anyone find a part # for a 1/2 drive, SAE fraction, 12 point, shallow, chrome socket set? I can find 6 point, but no 12.

Also looking for 1/4” drive, SAE fractional, Deep, 12 point, set part #.

I don't think CAT sells the 1/4s in 12pt SAE. Just 6pt , which you probably found.

someone correct me if this is wrong, tho.

doing some more research, figured id share the results.

Anyone know what a shoulder bolt socket is?

I believe this is a comprehensive table of available sockets. If you find something incorrect, let me know and I will update the post.

For the 3 that say "no Kit" i think I have the PN to make the kit from below, For the 1/2 size it might not be worth it, but the other 2 sizes are still reasonably priced. The 1/2 size has 4 pn that are indicated as impact sockets, so without ordering them and seeing I don't know if those are correct. The others all seem to fit price wise.

Didn’t real want to buy that setup with 1/2 ratchet and extension. Maybe I’ll price out individual sockets.IMG_0573.jpeg
Ended up buying the 1/2” SAE 12 point deep socket set. $111 before -20%

Order all the individual 1/2” SAE 12 point shallow sockets. They don’t sell it as a set
Only $81 before -20%

Both sets Snap On quality USA sockets.

Got some stuff to fill gaps.
3/8" Deep 12pt Metric and SAE
3/8" Shallow 6pt SAE
1/4" Deep 6pt Metric and SAE
1/4" Shallow 6pt Metric

Surface finishes were good on the outside and just a couple of mismatch finishes. Maybe I'm being too particular but the interior surface were not that great, surface rust and some machining debris. I would recommend at least checking the insides for swarf as it might make for a bad time if it fell inside something mission critical.

My local dealer isn't participating in the 20% off, but I found a dealer about an hour away that is.

The only issue is when I try to checkout, the checkout option is greyed out and there's a red * next to Add Equipment. It's asking for the serial from a CAT product (which I don't own). Anyone know how to get past this? Can I just use a random CAT serial I find online, or is that going to try to bill/cause problems for whoever owns it.

That last set 214-1143 with only 7 pieces. I was kinda considering that one but just seems so small. Too bad they don't offer a full 3/8 6 pt set.

My order came in. Similar findings on inconsistent finishes, but happy overall.

My cat dealer is a mess, they can’t charge sales tax on app orders so they invoiced me for the whole order cost even though I paid by card on the app. After 2 calls to the dealer and one to cat global I got the sales tax waived also so a 27.5% discount total!

Opening all the individual socket bags took an hour, haha

Just picked up from the drop box a set of deep 1/2" metric sockets. One of the sockets in the set (22mm) is a 6 point but it's marked with the 12 point CAT part number.

It came in and is as described! Very happy with this buy!

Also found a gag 10mm set I got as a gift a few years back, includes some Williams 10mm for comparison against Cat.

Size stamping is upside down on the USA Williams in my opinion, but that seems to be an individual preference.

Taiwan Williams is of totally different form factor/shape to the Cat 10mm deep

Are these tools sourced from the US?

1/2" 6pt Impact sockets, standard/deep
Combination wrenches (Williams?)
Short combination wrenches

I can't speak for the short combination wrenches as I don't have those. However, I do have the 1/2 6pt impacts and the combination wrenches. The impacts are USA Snap On, just stamped CAT instead of Snap On and the combination wrenches I have are Williams USA SUPERCOMBO wrenches.

Not the best photo but my recent order was CAT stamped Snap-On Sockets and Williams style combination wrenches.

Any chance you have a shot of those wrenches out of the plastic...(y)
