Do you know if that 1/4 driver is available in a 3/8. The catalog is impossible to follow.

I downloaded the PDF catalog and searched for "socket driver" and the only one that came up, 3X, was the 1/4. That doesn't mean they called it something different in 3/8 drive, but....

That shows up as a 3/8 ratchet for me.

I misread what you were asking for. You could make your own 3/8 driver though. Just take a screwdriver handle and remove the blade and insert a 3/8 extension through the handle.

snap on used to make one, it's been discontinued for a long time, and the last time I looked, they were going for stupid money on ebay. It's a great tool, though, I use mine a lot.

There's a blue point one still I think, different handles tho. Koken do a nice one but again rubbery handle.

Someone was saying in another thread the cat snap on rebranded 4 way angle wrenches in metric were only about $110 and I didn’t need 4 way angle wrenches until I thought I could have snap on rebrands for $110 and now I need them if anyone has a link I could order these online instead of a dealer who might give me a hard time from some of the stuff I’m reading since I don’t got nothing to do with CAT repairs or know anything about them tbh

There is a 7-piece SAE set for $115 retail

There is also an add-on 7-piece set of larger sizes for $220 retail

The metric angle set doesn't appear to be online. When I was last quoted for that set by one of my CAT parts guys, it was $566 retail.

LOL , using these part numbers in Metro Detroit CAT Dealer I get $104.60 and $200.76. I have noticed the prices vary regionally. Both are able to be picked up by Feb 28th

Very true. Those are the same prices for me in Indiana.

Yeah, the links I used were set to one of my local CAT dealers.

For whatever reason prices can and do vary by dealer, region, availability, etc.

I checked and got the same prices in TN. It's probably up to the dealer as to how much they want to add onto the suggested list.

So I inquired with a German CAT dealer about the nut driver, they wanted me to return some paperwork and a copy of my gov. issued ID. I did. I hope that part# really comes back as a nut driver, I have a feeling I’m buying a nut driver that comes with a dozer attached or something …

Kind regards,
Olli

Sounds like a Germany/Europe thing.

It sure is. Common procedure to set up an account, minus the ID. But if that is how they want it, they get it. I don’t mind.

I’m honestly stoked that my inquiry apparently made it to that one person that feels like “hell, why not sell that guy the driver for his ‘collection’.” and is willing to go through with the procedure, although they really have nothing to expect from it further down the road, except this one sale - my inquiry made that pretty clear. I bet the next four people in line would have just trashed the inquiry, which would have been totally OK. I did not expect any reply at all to be honest. ;)

Kind regards,
Olli

Checking on-line here in Canada, I get $234.18 (CAD) for the 7 piece set and $449.54 (CAD) for the large set.

That's a lot of "Canuckistan kopecks". Ouch.

Yeah. I was all pumped to see this thread because I "need" a more complete set of angle wrenches and this looked like an amazing deal. Typed in my nearest dealer location and yup, well over $200 CAD for the smaller set.

Uncle BF would be disappointed, it's no "sore **** deal" if you get my drift.....

My dealer requires the same, but they fill out the account paperwork in office. This dealer has over 20 locations.

In the context of mikey03's comment above, I want to share my recent experience with you in February 2025 buying CAT tools.
This thread got me excited about the possibility of getting Snap-on tools at a great price. In particular I checked on the CAT catalog (as noted here by others, not an easy catalog to navigate) and I saw the 9 piece set metric universal sockets (10,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19)
(skips 11 mm) for $277. The photos in the CATalog actually show the Snap-on (See below). I don't have any universal sockets so this seemed like a good item to place a test order. Of course when they arrived they had the CAT stamp, not the Snap-on stamp. Except for that they look identical to Snap-on set 209FUMY retail price $605 (but no magnetic tray). In my experience on eBay if I am patient and make offers, I could have perhaps bought the set new for around $400
I know..... I could have had the Toptul damn good 10-19 ten piece set for $117.35 and Tekton and others for much less, but it's tempting to get Snap-on quality at such a price. What Snap-on has that the CAT does not have is re-sale value but my friends can deal with that when I'm dead.
But... to what Mikey03 said: Nobody gave me a hard time at the parts counter, I did create an account and order online, but we do that at Epstein or Tekton or Amazon. I didn't have to prove that I'm a professional or a CAT technician. It was easy and painless. I also got the six piece screwdriver set for $59 and they are clearly Williams and solid quality.... not as much of a deal, but a fair price.
But... maybe the best part... My dealer has a separate room for CAT merchandise. The Counter person was very friendly and helpful. They sell t-shirts, hats, headlights, neck lights and work lights and CAT toys for the kids and YETI like coolers that say CAT and lots more.
The three piece Snap-on screwdriver set with CAT yellow handles was $102.22.
All that is also online and they gave me the web address: shop.cat.com.
(Don't go to shopcat.com unless you're shopping for your cat !)
Bottom line: IMHO there's no reason to hesitate to buy from your CAT dealer. Mine treated me with courtesy and respect.
I don't think the Williams tools are such a bargain but the Snap-on definitely are.

So after the weekly groceries shopping & farmers market visit this morning, I went over the bridge to cross the river Rhine and visited the CAT dealer to pick up my driver. All around very pleasant experience and a place I hadn’t seen before - so now I got a foot in the door for possible future rental as well.

Just one remark for possible other German GJ members thinking about going this route to purchase tools: I wanted this CAT branded driver - I have a highly reliable Snappy as friend and did not purchase this because it was cheaper than buying Snap-On from him directly - it wasn’t. Now I don’t have a CAT price list, as it is per inquiry & quote only - so maybe, just maybe, when buying higher volumes there are potential discounts to be had. I don’t know, I don’t care - I was really happy to be served and didn’t want to start a discussion about discount(s) on such a trivial and one-off purchase. Also, I have no idea if the price I paid was already discounted - as neither quote nor invoice listed any discounts. So my guess for now is that I simply paid the current list price + VAT. Add the overall time involved, the roundtrip as mentioned above - this is purely for the ‘CAT’ driver.

However, given today’s experience, I felt really welcome and was offered to buy from them again if there was anything that I wanted. I might take them up on that offer, maybe I will build a small ‘CAT’-collection. Very, very happy.

What I definitely know, next time I need a machine, I will rent from them.

Kind regards,
Ollii

Funny you say that but I've seen listings and even sold items at a markup for CAT/Snap On tools on eBay plus more people know about these tools than ever before. I understand a small markup as a seller would be lucky to even break even on a new item as eBay and PayPal take their cut but I've also seen some tools listed at near Snap On prices I suppose in an attempt to take advantage of potential buyers that don't know how to buy these tools.

I think the branding is cool and you get a lifetime warranty on many of these tools. For me it is nice to have a physical location where I can warranty a tool without having access to a fancy tool truck that at best comes around once a week.

You should get the ratcheting screwdriver next (rebranded Williams). I am also building a CAT collection and am planning to buy more down the road. I was also very pleased with the service I received at my local dealer. They called me when my special order items arrived and the very moment I entered the store the parts guy was already coming from the back room with my order in hand. I still cannot believe the timing.

The sockets appear to be very similar to Snap-On sockets, mine have Snap-On date codes on them. I recently got a few metric hex bits to finish an incomplete set Snap-On set. They were about $7 a piece from the dealer. They look pretty similar to the Snap-On sockets if you ask me. I usually call the dealer and order over the phone. They can check inventory, shipping time, and take payment. I agree the catalog can be a pain to navigate. As an employee, I still sometimes can’t tell for sure who makes the tools 1730002283858.jpeg
Can you post the part # ‘s of the CAT hex sockets ?

Does anybody know which Snap On Torx would be the equivalent to the Cat 194-3584 set? Or if these are even Snap On vs Williams.

Looking to pick up the HD bits in gold but the Cat photos are black/white so it's nearly impossible to tell what's what. Cat also calls these TORXALIGN, which I don't see Snap On referencing.

Cat set is not the heavy duty gold ones. They are decent. I have both the Cat set and the Snap On gold ones. In practice my Cat set backed up the Snap On ones when I tore a gold torx up and was waiting on the tool truck to get the new one in. When I tore them both up then the air hammer came out to play in removing torx and Allens.

Only the metric Allen key set are gold. Standard Allen key set is not gold either.

Thanks for that - I'll hold off on those Torx. The standard ones are pretty good, but I like the HD better. I don't believe any of the SAE hex tools are gold - I think those only come in black.

CAT's selection is interesting. A lot of the tools only come in 12pt seemingly (or I'm doing a poor job navigating the catalog). But a lot of great value for things I don't need warrantied by the truck.

Interesting note, the catalog I have for CAT (late 2023 version) lists 194-3585 as an 8 piece Metric Hex Driver Set that includes 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 in 3/8 drive and 12, 14, 17 in 1/2 drive. Omits the 6mm 3/8 bit socket.

On the CAT website, this is listed as a 9 piece set but no breakdown of what's included. It arrived today and the 9th piece is the 6mm 3/8 socket.

Great selection of common sizes and is identical to my Snap On equivalents.

Good catch on this one! My version from January 2025 lists it as a 9 piece set, but only lists the 8 bits and skips the 6mm. I’ll see if I can inform them of the error.

TorxAlign is Camcar’s tradename for wedge torx. That feature is the special sauce in the Snap-on heavy duty removal bits. CAT may have been using wedge bits at one time, but those pictured are not. Looks like an old description that needs revised.

Now if only they'd put descriptions on the website catalog!

Good info. For $54 I ended up ordering the CAT Torx set, I think it's more than likely going to be the standard Torx as others mentioned versus the TorxAlign that they're noting it as.
