New to the forum so apologies if this has been discussed. I just ordered a pliers set from Caterpillar. I was told, after ordering, that these were actually made by (or by the same manufacturer) as SnapOn.

My local Cat dealer had a 40% off Cyber Monday sale and I got their 3 piece plier set, 6 piece screwdriver set, 3/8 metric 12 point socket set, 3/8 metric 12 point deep socket set, 3/8 metric 6 point socket set, 1/4 metric 6 point socket set and 1/4 metric 6 point deep socket set, all for $262.16

This does seem to be the case with at least vast majority of the CAT branded hand tools. Its a known hack to get new "snap-on" tools at a better price.

Don't know about their tools, but I've seen work boots with CAT name and they are garbage chinee stuff.

I snagged a "Caterpillar" 1/4" drive ratchet on ebay for $9 bucks (with shipping).

Opened it up.. cleaned and lubed...nice little Snap-on teardrop head model ... worked like a champ. Gave it to my buddy. He loves it.

There is a difference between branded and licensed merch. That's why you can buy Snap On at AutoZone and Costco.

I've noticed discussion, favorable reviews and claims that they are SnapOn made. Looking at Cat's website, selecting tools I see a bunch of special service tools only. Where are you fellow getting wrenches, sockets, etc?

Yes, they recently introduced some new tools made by Stahwille. There should be some info in one of those links I posted above.
