Ceiling Anchors

Planning on doing my loft extension and what is currently being used are L-brackets into a 2x4 which are bolted into the joist.

If this is safe then I can replicate this no problem.

If this isn't safe and there is an alternative to the L-bracket for a ceiling joist I'd really appreciate some insight.

I had a contractor come out to quote the job but they want over 7 grand to do it and I just can't afford that.

I priced out the materials and I'm looking at about 300 bucks total so I was HOPING the estimate would be more in line with 2 grand or something to that effect, but yeah 7 grand is too steep for me so going to do it myself.

Thanks for any info!

I would poke a hole in the ceiling and through bolt your 2x to the ceiling/floor joists. Those angle brackets aren't designed to be structural. Also need to know what the joists are made out of. If they are the I-beam type, they are not meant for any more load than drywall on the bottom of them.

I'm confused what you're extending and what you are trying to anchor.

But those cheap brackets usually are not the correct answer for anything.

The joists are floor joists. This is the ceililng for the 2nd floor.

Are the floor joists an I-joist like this picture or are they 2x material?

Didn't we just cover this in your previous thread? What happened to running a post-supported beam?

No, the construction method shown in your photos is not at all safe.
