Chad,
First of all, I want to say what a great job on your garage man!! Awesome!

We are doing our house in the REVERSE order that you got to do yours...
We've done every room in the entire house from ceiling, walls, fans, light fixtures, counters, bathrooms, wood floors, roof, HVAC, door handles..... Hell you get the picture..:eyecrazy:

Now I finally get to do the garage and I'm ready!!

You mentioned doing the synthetic stone on your wall. We did the same in our TV room and it came out great. We did this after looking at a few buddy's projects that did the same. One of them did a synthetic river rock all the way up the wall, similar to what you want to do with the stacked stone look. The stone is more like tile, goes on with adhesive, and you apply a grout material in between almost like you are tiling a floor. Now you are doing a stacked stone look (which I haven't done) but it will still be the same concept of appyling the synthetic stone (if that's the route you go) to the wall.

The attached pic is in my TV room which only has a 10ft ceiling, but my buddy w the river rock has probably a 20ft ceiling and it worked out really nice, gives and gives the look of a 3D fireplace all the way to the ceiling.

Both my buddy and I ended up sourcing large cedar beams and cutting them to the length we wanted w large circular saws. I then sourced a guy the could make the corbles to go under them, bolted them together from behind then bolted them to the wall with large lag bolts. (I could do pull ups on it so I know it was attached pretty well) In my case, we put it together like a jig saw puzzle as we had all different shapes and sizes. My buddies was river rock, so started at the bottom and worked his way all the way to the ceiling. With yours I would say it's start at the bottom and work your way up as well.

Attached is a pic of what mine, which I believe is called Austin Stone. I'll try to dig up additional info on the company that makes it. It's been a while, but I know when I looked at the catalog, there were several stacked stone options.

By the way your garage came out, I'm sure you'll do a killer job on the fireplace as well!!!

Thanks so much Chuck! Your stone looks great! We have very similar granite tops too. Bet you are excited about getting to start on that garage now. Can't wait to see more of it and thanks again for the stone info.

...and here are some progress pics. I really enjoyed doing this over the weekend. Just took my time and it went really quickly. I could have gotten by with 2 coats but did 3 to be safe. The SW "real red" is actually a red base so it covers really well.

I'm very happy with the line crispness. I did the trick suggested by EMC2 and painted the frog tape with the adjacent color and then painted my red. Only a couple little spots I touched up with a fine brush. I'm loving how much more in your face this is now - especially when walking from the house into the garage. I love how the cabinets and tool boxes really stand out now. On to some pics...

By the way I took these pics at dusk so they look a little dark. During the daytime the red really glows and looks perfect.

Dang! That looks amazing. It gives it that dramatic effect that will really snap the necks of drivers by. I can tell you are pretty blown away by it, and you should be.

What's next?

Sidenote: I love your pub table and stools. I'm currently looking for a nice 2-seater for mine. Now that I only have one car, I have a little more "lounge room".

Time to add the JackLifts so the openers do not detract from the work of art on that back wall :)

Ok, I am super impressed with this garage! The color choices really compliment everything that you have going on there!

I have been looking at the Husky base units for a section of my workbench and am wondering what you think of the final working height as far as comfort goes? What did you end up with a final height? The specs say 33.5".

Thanks! Yes I'm very excited. I'd say I finally like this garage as much as my last one. It now really makes me stop in my tracks with a true wow factor.

Next would be some new carriage doors and raise the tracks/do jackmaster side lift openers to clean up the ceiling. I would love to do it but that one is down the list a ways. Want to do my living room paint and stone and also working on getting some new furniture in the house. Some small things to do in the garage though... ;-)

BOOM INDEED!!!
Great result Chad. Looks amazing.

Thanks for the inspiration! Now I know how you feel when you open your garage door everyday!

That transformation looks awesome! :rocker:

Thanks!

The garage door opener closest to the stairs has bulb out. :shocking:

Ack! How did I miss this??? No really I did not catch this and I stare at that room way too much...

Yes exactly! See above - that is my next big item. I really want some carriage doors to let more daylight in and also move those tracks to the clg and do the side lift. Eventually that will make room for a 4 post lift in the 5 yr plan. :rocker:

Thanks! Just measured and my working height is 34.5". I find it comfortable but I'm just under 5-10" so might depend on your height. Other than adjusting the legs and putting my 1/4" aluminum top you would get close to the same. I do like the taller workbench that allows you to put the cabinet underneath. I think that would be most comfortable but I don't do long stretches of work on the bench since I'm usually curled up under the car turning wrenches.

Chad,
Red Wall makes the whole place POP! Nice Job!!!

BTW, I just got back from Barrett Jackson. The RaceDeck booth had a pic of your garage as a backdrop. Looked really cool!

I asked the 2 very HOT girls who were there about the pic and they had NO clue. I soon realized they were "BAIT" and not 2 Hot Sales Reps working the booth...
LOL!!

Wow that is very cool thanks for letting me know! I saw on the racedeck site that the banner was at SEMA but didn't know it is still making rounds. I'll post up a pic from the racedeck site. The funny thing is I stumbled across the photo and had NO idea they used it for their booth display. Would have been nice they let me know.

All your posted Pics are MIA all the way through the post Chuck.

Not any more. I just purchased more bandwidth. Glad the pics are popular!

Here are the pics I found of the banner at SEMA. Sure wish i had painted that wall red before they used it!

Chad,
Yup.. Same Booth Setup at Barrett Jackson. Sorry I didn't snap any pics while I was there.

Chad,

Just read all the way through (again, apparently... I came across one of my own posts somewhere in there) and you've done an amazing job with the space. the EMC2 red wall is just right for the space.

Look forward to seeing carriage doors and the high-lift openers!

What an amazing space. I'm definitely bookmarking yours for inspiration in case I ever do mine up right.

One little nitpick...with the red wall (which was the right choice) the red on your hotrod light disappears a bit, at least in the photos. Might be deserving of a different background.

Chad,

I just now found your thread (don't know how I missed it before?) GREAT job on your garage.. WOW! And the crazy thing is, you're going with a very similar color scheme to what I was looking at. The Nismo colors scheme is yep Red, Black and Grey/Silver. I was planning to get this clock and run this color scheme.

I have a triple with two bays for one door and one for the other door. I REALLY like your RD design... damn. I might have to "borrow" that idea (thanks Rick for suggesting the Red stripe). :)

You did a REALLY great job here. Thanks again for the idea on the RD design, I'm planning to go with something like that. The flooring looks so nice with the reflection of light off the ribs.

Thanks so much Kyle! I love the look and colors of that clock. I think they go well together too. Please let me know as you get into your build. I'd love to see how it is looking. You will love the floor. It looks great and always looks clean even when it really isn't. Good luck and thanks again for the kind words.

I was worried about that too actually but in person with the light turned on it looks really great. Just no good way to capture it in the photos but I'm very happy with how it looks. You need to do yours up right now!

Garage looks awesome and I have saved this as a favorite page for future reference. I appreciate a space like this as a man cave/hangout/etc. I do have a question for you though. In a space ;like that, I would ONLY hang out/play poker/whatever and am positive that I would never work on any greasy projects. I am assuming that is what you do in there. If it is in fact your hangout, why have such a vast amount of tool storage. Do you drag those tools to where you actually do some work or do you actually work in there? If you work in there, how in the heck do you keep it so clean, must take a lot of work.

Not trying to come across as an a$$, just curious as to how you do it. Colour me impressed if you work on dirty jobs in there and manage to keep it looking that great.

Well, I think everyone builds their garage to fit their needs. I would not ask a person with an obvious ******** working shop why they don't keep it cleaner and fancier. They have a garage to fit their unique needs. In my case I DO get into greasy jobs on the camaro such as engine, transmissions, steering, brakes, rearend. Rebuilding dirtbikes, etc. but I don't do welding or painting. I get into specific projects for 6 or 8 weeks then clean up all my tools and get things back in order.

I think there is a "continuum" of garages ranging from ******** working garages to full on showroom display. Sure I land closer to the showroom end of things but my rides are in the state of being nice drivers that I work on now and then and for me it suits my needs perfectly. No need to build something I don't want or need. "You can ANYTHING you want but you can't have EVERYTHING you want". I chose the parts that I like the best. When you try to make anything do it all, then something will suffer. I think of dual sport bikes in my case. They **** off road and on. Get a specific bike and you are much happier if it is either good in the dirt or good on the street!

As for the cabinets and toolboxes they are all full and house all the things I want hidden away when I want to use them.

How is your build coming and what are your plans?

That is one special place! It's so over-the-top georgous for a garage I don't even know what to say, but while I would LOVE to have a space like that (who wouldn't), I'm guessing your daily drivers live outside? You've never put you location, but it must be somewhere warm...because here in the great white north parking inside is one of the most coveted of conveniences - but bringing them in means mounds of slush, show, dirt, gravel and mud making a garage space like that out of the question. :(

Thanks! I'm really sort of bummed I'm out of stuff to do right now but have been enjoying the garage very much. I still walk out and just say wow this place is so cool to hang out in! Looking forward to doing some new doors eventually but plenty of other home projects first. Keep me posted on your progress guys!

The only things left that I don't want in the garage is the trash can and lawn mower so that is pretty good. I need a new mower and have seen the honda mowers that collapse down and come with a cover...hmmm would be pretty sweet.

This is an old quote, so forgive me if you've already addressed it.

Have you seen the new Toro Recycler with SmartStow? It folds up and stands vertically on its back wheels for storage in a very small footprint. Traditional mowers would leak oil and gas everywhere if you did this.

There is also an electric brand with a vertical stow model called EGO LM2001.

Both are sold at Home Depot. I have a Honda that works fine, but the Toro is tempting.

Love your garage, just read the entire thread and it is exactly what I am looking to do with the new double in my new house. I think the fireplace in my new house has the same idea that you are looking for:

It really does create a wow factor in the house. Good luck with your living room renovation!
