Wow I've been away too long!

So...here is the hidden tv project I finished last year. I really love it and surprises people all the time.

My other project over this past year has been working on the lego room. I have 3 boys that are lego crazy and I sure enjoy building with them.

Painting the room was probably the worst along with dragging a 9' granite top upstairs! I still have a special plan for the entry door that will be cool.

Wow, both of those jobs are super slick. What's the program playing on the TV? Looks like it may be you on some sort of TV show. No?

I wish that was my car on tv but happened to be on very similar. I think I was watching an autocross show and there are usually some classic camaro's on there. These days a whole lot of football on that tv!

Can you share info on the actuators? I am planning on making a cedar chest/TV lift for the end of our bed but have had trouble finding them with enough extension.

That LEGO room is beyond awesome! You have some lucky kids, and I'm sure the time spent in there with them is all worth it.

Ditto what the others said about the lego room! It's bad assed and your kids are lucky you built it for "them" ;)

The TV project turned out great too! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys! Lucky for my kids I'm obsessed with crazy projects.

tab2 - yes I bought my actuators and controllers from Progressive Automations. I found them on the internet and they were great. I used a linear track actuator for my tv. I'm going to do a hidden entry door to the lego room and planning to use a regular linear actuator. I have plans to use a secret book to work the switch and maybe a few more crazy ideas. You can order any size/speed on the Progressive automations website. Let me know how your project goes!

So, this weekend I finally pulled off the "Rick approved" Racedeck cleaning technique. Man that was a pretty big job! I don't know how he does it so often! Thankfully my 10 year old loves running the pressure washer.

I was amazed at all the junk that had accumulated underneath. It was so nice to blow it all out, pressure wash the floors and racedeck and put it all back in. It all looks so good now and I'm glad I did it. It has been around 3 years since I put the floor in so I'm really happy with how it has looked so far. Having it freshly cleaned is really nice.

I wanted to get this done since I ordered a four post lift that's coming around December and wanted the floors looking good before it is set in place.

My goodness but you're living the dream! And your work is inspirational (if I had the energy, age, time and $ :willy_nil ).

But, as a Ford man - I'd do it in blue. Just sayin'. . . . . .

Gorgeous garage. And this is the main reason I opted out of free flow tiles. The mess that gets through is crazy.

Thanks! I would like to have a Ford in my future! It would have to be a 28-34 Ford Roadster though!

Holy ****. I can't imagine trying to put the floor out

It was a good amount of work. I sometimes miss the solid tiles that I used to have just because I like the shiny look on floors but I actually spent a lot of time cleaning and scrubbing on my old floor because everything just sat on top. With the free flow I've done nothing for 3 years and it always looks good though. I think the tradeoff is pretty equal - just pick the color and look that you like the most. I would really consider doing the lighter gray color in the middle and still like the look of the tuffshield tiles. I'd better get that thought out of my head though. Any one interested in buying some used tiles?? :)

I think the shiny tuffshield tiles like the alloy color in this pic would look good in the center of my floors. Don't see the freeflow and solid mixed too often though.

Looking for opinions on where to put the lift. I have been planning to put it on the far left and park the camaro on it. I'm doing the Bendpak HD7w which would give me room to work on the left side of it near the wall since it is a short and fairly narrow lift. I've also thought about putting it in the center stall purely for a more symmetrical look when all the doors are open. I guess it would be easier to work on both sides of a car too. Long term is to have two single lifts on on the double door side but until then what would you do?

Reason I'm doing lifts is mostly for extra car capacity but I'm also planning on doing big work to the camaro (6 speed ******, suspension work, etc.)

Me personally, I'd put it where the 1 car door is. That way you make the most of your room where the 2 car door is.

I do like the idea of that so I could work on cars in the middle of the double bay. My only concern is the house door is on that side of the single and we walk in and out there often so it might get cluttered especially when I have the camaro torn apart. I really wish my single door had been placed on the left but oh well.

They do make those rollers that allow you to move the lift so I could try other spots but they are expensive and not sure if they would roll on the free flow.

Anyone try rolling their lift around on freeflow racedeck?

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

I look forward to this week every year since I take off between Christmas and New Year. Been about a year since I did my first double door high lift conversion.

Working on my single door now. Today I got down some of the old components and put in the extended blocking up the wall and got it painted.

Tomorrow I'll put the new extended tracks up and start working on winding the new spring.

Still waiting on my 4 post lift but should be in by mid-February. Can't wait to get it installed! I ordered the HD-7W red bendpack but apparently that takes quite a bit longer to get when ordering the red color.

You will like having both doors higher like that. I have a lift behind my single door but had the high rise door tracks put on the double door as well. It makes the garage feel huge with both doors up near the ceiling. Enjoy the lift, hopefully it will arrive soon!

Thanks Stretch! You're right it feels so open and big in there after getting all the old junk off the ceiling this morning. It also keep from blocking my lights when the door is up which is nice. I'm getting ready to put my new tracks on the wall and hopefully get the new spring assembly wound up by the end of the day. Tomorrow I'll plan to install the opener if all goes well.

Had a good day of progress on the other high lift conversion. Just takes so much time up and down the ladder getting the tracks right and installing the new spring and drums. Glad to have that spring winding done without getting knocked out! Today I'll plan to install the Jackshaft opener and do some loose ends but getting very close to finished. I wouldn't want to do this too often but it has been a very rewarding project.

Having all that overhead junk out of the way makes the garage feel so nice and open.

Old pic when they were both typical height. Felt so low when you walked in and with the doors up covered a good bit of my lighting.

Wow look at this old cluttered pic of overhead mess going on. Fun to read my own thread from the beginning and see all the steps along the way.

Looks great. I've read this several times and it's great each time.

The lift, I would put it in the middle. I only have a two car and the wall is a pita. Not the end of the world. If I had a 3 car, I'd put it in the middle bay. Much each all around and gives plenty of room for the two other bays.

Brakes are incredible. I have the track pack which includes the brembos and 2 piece slotted rotors. Plenty of power and seem very predictable.

I think if I was tracking the car a lot ceramic would be good but for playing on the street I'm very happy.

Dude I can't wait to see your new garage come together. That is going to be such a huge space. I like how it seems pretty normal from the front but open the doors and boom! You could get all kinds of stuff in there.

crazy enough, it would be opposite for me. I had a dedicated, caged BMW M3 race car, and instruct with a lot of groups. The guys who have carbon ceramics want basic brakes on their race car/track cars because they are SOOO expensive to replace all the time when they are abused. Lots of Porsche guys buy the cheaper 2 piece iron rotors because the ceramics are just too expensive.

You dont go through brakes nearly as often on the street, so its more reasonable to have the carbon ceramics there.

Just finished binging the entire thread. Looks amazing:evil:

Thanks for the feedback. I do think that makes good sense and may do that. I think what is holding me back is that I like the view coming out of the house and being able to see all the cars all the way across the room. Thinking the lift in the middle would clutter it up right in the middle. I guess what I'm saying is form would say to put it on the wall and function would be to put it in the middle. I really bet I end up buying those wheels so I can move it. Have a feeling wherever I do the initial install I'll want to see it in the other spot shortly after!

Please do save! How do you think I came up with half my ideas ha ha!

The doors look great!
Thanks!

Beyond the goal to share knowledge and experience with others, looking back at your own progress is a huge benefit of the documentation process.

So here are some final pics of both high lift doors done. Down to hiding all the little wires, painting all the caulk joints and also moved my viper banner over this new single door. I wanted to do a different banner above the tv. I still need to add a couple outlets in the ceiling at the new openers but I have easy access from the attic storage above. Otherwise 99% done. I love both of these looking the same and they are so quiet!

Advice Needed:

Take a look at the door into the house. I've been considering painting some of the interior doors on the main level of my house in satin black and leaving the white trim.

What ideas have you all come up with to do something cool with your door that goes into the house? My son and I thought it would be cool to use the same doors from one of the tall cabinets I have and hide the door completely as another tool cabinet.

Was thinking of painting it black buy maybe it needs to just blend in more? I could match the paint and stripe from the walls too.

Solid sheet of diamond plate?

Let me know what you think!

What else does my garage need? Have thought about doing a small wall with nothing but metal signs as a neat little area. What jumps out at you when you see the space?

Been working on a hidden bookcase door into the lego room for a while now thought I'd share it as well. Next step is to set up the powered actuator to respond to a secret knock

My thoughts on the door are don't go too crazy. Your garage looks so clean now and is really sharp with all you have done to this point.

And tell me more about this entire room you have for legos!! :)

I still have all the lego sets from when I was a kid several decades ago and I seem to keep adding more these days with the cool stuff they're doing now.
