Thanks, it was allot of fun and cant wait to go back but I am not sure I want to take my 31 year old motorcycle again.

Great photos!!! Yes, I could see how a newer bike would come in handy on a long trip like that!!! I like the vintage bike but technology has came a long way.... I rarely buy new, but I like to stay about 10 years behind the new tech LOL... Very jealous of the trip!!

EFI and Electric Start would be nice, plus hydraulic disk brakes, adjustable suspension, fuel gauge, lighter, reliability, and so on and so on.

A new bike would be nice but the problem is you have to pay for it. A vintage/classic bike is nice because if it gets damaged it is not a real big loss.

Since it has been Hot in the area we have been going to the lake. I made a mount from gator clips and some wire ties for a shade umbrella. It is nice to go sit out on the back of the jet ski and swim around while being in the shade.

Added a hidden hitch from Curt from etrailer.com to replace my ugly uhaul hitch. Great company with great customer service. Also added a 4 pin connector bracket that fits nice with the connector being out of sight but still usable.

Lets face it I am cheap, so instead of spending 200 dollars at the Toyota dealer I spent 10 dollars at Home Depot.

I like to ride mountain bikes and fall riding season is around the corner. I needed some bike fork mounts for my truck and utilized the current cleat system.

The brackets are made out of 16 gauge sheet metal and some stainless steel bolts. I painted it all up with some black hammer finish paint. I didnt have to drill or modify the truck rack system at all.

I have never taken any of the loop rides but I would like to. I don't like riding along ways by myself. It is pretty hard to find dependable people to ride with.

They are both very tough trails, but do-able if you take your time. Talk to Lane at the playhouse next time you go. He rides and was our "tour guide" last time.

I will be up in Red River sometime in October for fall foliage. I am planning on replacing a tailgate cap on my truck and building a Harbor Freight trailer. I dropped my RM250 on my tail gate about a year ago and after loading the XL600 in my truck a few times I now want a small trailer. I will post some build pics when I get the trailer.

I went on a nice Sunday ride to Buffalo Lake Wildlife Reserve. It was nice and cool day with an overcast.

Thanks for the comments on the 1983 XL600R.

I just purchased it in September of 2013 I am the third owner. It was originally purchased in 1984 in Roswell New Mexico and apparently the original owner never rode it more than 500 miles. The second owner was a friend of the original owner and he basically did some regular maintenance and rode it about 1000 miles.

It is all original and only has 2500 miles on it. I am still impressed that it is now 31 years old and has original paint that looks great for being a dirt bike.

What I really like about the bike is the engineering involved. It has an oil tank that is the frame, it has a mono pro link shock, 4 valve engine, 2 headers, 2 carburetors one high speed and one low speed, 2 compression releases, and stock air bleed screws on the forks.

Every time I take it for a ride it makes me feel like I am doing the Baja 1000 which has always been a dream of mine.

Definitely a cool bike, and yes I see from your post, wow Honda put a lot of effort in the Engineering, that's a lot of cool features and still on the road 31 yrs later! Great bike and garage!

We'll after our trip me and my wife have been talking. We decided to get back into shape.

I sold the motorcycle today and bought a new mountain bike. The new one will arrive Wednesday. The one pictured will go for trade on some goodies at the local bike shop. I'll miss it I have done three sprint triathlons on it and a couple bike races.

Mountain biking has tons of advantages to motorcycles, their safer, don't require gas or oil, no tittle, no insurance, no registration or inspection, easier to load up, better aerobic exercise, better for the environment and so on.

I did a little work in the garage after I sold the motorcycle, mounted my old vice.

Well finally got my new bike. Although I miss my old motorcycle I am very excited to get this mountain bike rolling. I hope to loose some weight, get in shape and do a couple mountain bike races this fall.

After my fourth ride at Palo Duro Canyon both tires on my bike were flat due to thorns and stickers. I did some work in the garage and replaced my tubes with some heavy duty slime tubes. Hopefully no more flats for a while.
