Chain and Binder Storage Rack

Built a rack to keep the chains and binders of the garage floor. Any opinions?

I drilled the holes. The hooks are bungee strap hooks they just hold a link in the center of the chain to keep more of the chain off the floor.

Eack upright is lagged into a sud with 4 5/16 x 2 1/2 lag screws. I stood on the top before I took it back down for paint.

Very nice. Can I ask why no pegs? You woudn't need the "S" hooks. I did something similar, but incorperated pegs to hang my web slings.

Regardless, very nice and plenty of room for more stuff.

Very nice, unfortunately I have all my chains and binders just in those milk cubes. At least I have them semi-organized with long chains in one, short chains in another, and binders in a 3rd... Would be nice to have them and all various sized straps organized on the wall.

I agree with all above, nice job. If your chains are like mine from various jobs they get dirty/wet. I'd be putting some sort of boot drip tray or something similar under them to catch the dirt/drip ... aside from that.. I just might have to borrow your idea.. my buckets of chains just aren't doing it for me.

No offense uniballer, but do you really need a drawing for something so simple? It's not like there are close tolerances that have to be followed or it won't work.

I've been needing to make such a rack for a while myself. Seeing this might be the motivation I need to get it done! Thanks 509frank

The angle with holes drilled looks similar to what you would find in a server, network, or Audio/Video equipment rack. Sometimes they can be found for reasonably cheap at an auction or from an electronics recycler. Most of them have all of the holes threaded so you could easily attach all kinds of things to them instead of just hooks.

Same here, but I can never make up my mind which I prefer - wall or crate. We use recycled parts totes from a GM plant - they're a little taller than a milk crate and about twice as deep. Great for chains and binders, but everything kinda gets coiled together in the bottom. And its heavy!

All my chain binders and come-a-longs are hooked on the top of the posts of my shop press, (5 X 5" box tubing), and the chain is all in a bucket.

I did do something similar out of conduit for the ratchet straps though, and out of 2x2 for most of the pipe clamps

Here's a simple tip on storing chain in a box or bucket. Most people are going to know this one, but you never know.......hook chain hooks over the edge of the bucket to make retrieval of a particular chain much easier. Painting the hooks different colors for each chain enhances this ability, especially if chains are of different lengths. For storing bulk or random pieces of chain that do not have hooks, cut a slot into the upper edge of the box or bucket to allow the chain to slot into, to keep up with the loose end.
