Chamberlain/Craftsman rail extension question

I've just purchased two 3/4 HP Craftsman belt drive door openers. I need to purchase the 8ft rail extension for each opener. As luck would have it, there is only ONE in the entire city.

Now I know that Chamberlain makes Craftsman's openers. Would it be safe to assume that an extension kit made by Chamberlain for a similar type opener would be compatible? Has anyone run into this? To make matters worse, the guy at Sears tried to order and the part came up discontinued. Discontinued???!!!! Aren't 8' doors the norm these days?

the extension kit is just putting another section of track and screw in the system

It would depend on if it the Chamberlain is a T-rail or a tube. The craftsman has a tube type rail not sure what the Chamberlain's are nowadays.

I needed an extension for my son's opener.
Sears site said discontinued.
Found a seller on Ebay that had 40 of them.

If you are willing to do some tinkering with hole punched angle iron on the ceiling set back from the door, you may be able to set the whole opener back from the header and just use your existing track.
Often there is 3 or 4 feet of unused track between the traveler and the header when the door is down.
You just move the opener back this amount.
They bolt them to the header just because it is an easy place to take the thrust forces.
I did this with 8 foot doors under a 10 foot ceiling.
I did have to lengthen the “J” though.

Problem solved.

For the record, the extension kits are the same. A quick search revealed that both models used the same rail system. However, their extension kits have different part numbers. I bought the Sears one then bought the Chamberlain. Same kit. Assumption correct.

kbs2244, I might look into that, although I'm not installing them myself. I can always take the kits back.

Thanks for the help guys. :bounce:
