Changing a Drill Chuck Spindle in a Drill?

I have a Black and Decker hand drill that plugs into the mains. It only takes a drill up to 10mm but I want to change that to a 13mm chuck.

I have the chuck here but I've just found that the thread for the larger chuck is a wider diameter. I think it's a 1/2 inch. The original on the drill is a 3/8 inch I believe. I know I could search for a chuck with the correct spindle diameter but I want to use what I have.

I could:

1 - find an adapter for the spindle to upsize the thread? (I'm not even sure this is possible)

2- find a 13mm chuck with a 3/8 spindle diameter (don't want to do this)

3 - Try to press a new spindle into the main gear at the front of the drill (see photos).

Some pics below.. Just wondering if any of you have had this issue before and how can I solve it? Thanks

with the minor diameter of the 1/2' thread and the major diameter of the 3/8 thread doubtful you'll find a bushing . if you had a lathe you could loctite in a stud to the chuck & drill & tap it to 3/8 .
might be a lot easier to find a chuck with the proper thread

Thanks for the help.. I think the thread bushing is the way I'm going to go. My only obstacle now is finding someone in Melbourne Australia who sells them but I'm sure it won't be impossible. I thought about threading one myself, but by the time I bought all the tools I needed it could have bought a New Drill with a larger chuck fitted ;).

Same general corner of Australia, right? I would be willing to pay postage to avoid driving 30 mins out of my way for something unique like that.

Good find, and thanks very much for that. The strange thing is that I was there yesterday, in Frankston. Will make another trip for the hell of it. You are right in saying it's a unique item. I've called a dozen places today and still waiting for an answer. It is actually to UNF spec too. 3/8 - 24 and 1/2 inch 20.
