We are in the process of formulating EpoArmor UV. The equipment and basic formulation is done. It was originally intended to be for industrial and commercial applications. We’ve been working with our suppliers to make the system more portable to where dealers could offer the product in the local community.
The big advantage to UV cured Epoxy & Urethanes is that you can use the area immediately. A self propelled machine that looks like a vacuum is used over the coating and by the time the when of the machine gets to the area in front of it, the coating is cured.
The technology is not totally new, not is the application. Making the solution practical for the contractor doing 2-3 car garages is not something that we believe to be available with the current offerings.
The obvious advantage for the consumer is the fact that they can use their garage right away. There are also some adhesion advantages and quality of material advantages. Another advantage to the consumer is the assurance that you have a contractor who has invested in a system and been properly trained as opposed to the guy (and we all compete against him) who woke up this morning with an idea, got some magnetic signs and went to the paint store ;-)
The value for the contractor is that after an initial investment in equipment and participation in some training they have a value added coatings product that is not competing on ‘just price’.
This is something that we would make available to quality flooring contractors regardless of franchise affiliation. It is also something where we would not sell two units into the same small town.
There are lots of questions to be answered such as what the upfront equipment would cost. We don’t have a good number for you yet but it would be a good sized investment that many contractors would have to consider leasing. We are interested in your initial thoughts both as a dealer and as a consumer.
