We are in the process of formulating EpoArmor UV. The equipment and basic formulation is done. It was originally intended to be for industrial and commercial applications. We’ve been working with our suppliers to make the system more portable to where dealers could offer the product in the local community.

The big advantage to UV cured Epoxy & Urethanes is that you can use the area immediately. A self propelled machine that looks like a vacuum is used over the coating and by the time the when of the machine gets to the area in front of it, the coating is cured.

The technology is not totally new, not is the application. Making the solution practical for the contractor doing 2-3 car garages is not something that we believe to be available with the current offerings.

The obvious advantage for the consumer is the fact that they can use their garage right away. There are also some adhesion advantages and quality of material advantages. Another advantage to the consumer is the assurance that you have a contractor who has invested in a system and been properly trained as opposed to the guy (and we all compete against him) who woke up this morning with an idea, got some magnetic signs and went to the paint store ;-)

The value for the contractor is that after an initial investment in equipment and participation in some training they have a value added coatings product that is not competing on ‘just price’.

This is something that we would make available to quality flooring contractors regardless of franchise affiliation. It is also something where we would not sell two units into the same small town.

There are lots of questions to be answered such as what the upfront equipment would cost. We don’t have a good number for you yet but it would be a good sized investment that many contractors would have to consider leasing. We are interested in your initial thoughts both as a dealer and as a consumer.

The UV cure is great for boats/surfboards etc. You can do all the laminating and take your time then just flip on the lights and cure it. It might get expensive for a floor though?

I know a company called Quaker Chemical out of Pennsylvania uses a UV curing system for industrial and commercial applications. Same thing? How long will the flooring last/How long is the warranty?
QuakerChem did a few test samples at auto manufacturing plants. I think it was GM.

We have several test applications out there, but they are all in industrial settings. The warranty will vary with the system that is used and the application. A residential system with an epoxy and a clear coat we are looming at a 10 Year warranty.

I spoke with Justin, purchased enough EpoArmor to do a 2000 sq ft. attached garage at my new house. I'm taking before pictures... and probably will take progress pictures tomorrow too. It is all black base, not using any flakes, and then top coat urathane for the gloss.

I have done a small garage before with the Home Depot/Lowes quality stuff, but this is brand new smooth concrete (no sealer, and 4 months since the pour) I'll fill everyone in on the progress, walls and such aren't painted yet, but at least the floor will give the 'start' to the garage project. I also laid 3/4" PEX for radiant heat in the garage before the concrete pour... so heated winter should be phenominal!

Brian can't update right now due to an unfortunate accident involving a lot of expensive epoxy, ultraviolet light and a wandering sheepdog. If we can get him lose he can start posting again...:headscrat

We are ALSO offering a NEW UV coating. We have developed a Jobsite machine capable of Curing a garage floor in LESS THAN 10 Minutes. The Coating is NOT cheap 'per gallon' Installed though is ONLY $.25-$.30 MORE than traditional Two part epoxies.

Because of the cost of the equipment this is NOT a Do It Yourself product.

This is going to Revolutionize the industry, I agree.

It will keep the 'fly by night' contractors out of the biz. The $50,000 investment in equipment will be sure of that.
