Alright,

I'm doing something a bit crazy. I got the green light from my wife to turn my Chas Parker 436 into a coffee table. This is my very rough outline of what I have in mind.

I also plan on mounting the vise on a 20" diameter .5" thick steel plate.. don't want any tip overs.

The table will be 46"x33" and the top will be roughly 18" from the ground.

It will be pretty heavy, but I think it should definitely be a statement piece!

I figured, after restoring, couldn't really practically use it for blacksmithing.. but I want to keep looking at it 😅

What do you guys think?

I like the concept. Personally,I don't like the look of the pipe & fittings . how about just clamping a pc of angle iron or something to lose the pipe?
Thought about forging something out, definitely going to be trying different mounting methods.

I’m with Cobbler, don’t like the pipe. A nicely chamfered big ole angle iron, especially if it looks vintage, would look good there.

Assuming it's going to go on the floor, you're going to have to be at quite an oblique angle to know that there's a vice under there!

Our wives should get down on their knees and thank the old iron gods that we are spending our spare time finding and restoring these old babies and not going to strip bars. Ditto on losing the pipes.

Agree; to get the effect, the top needs to be plate glass. The good news is they're cheap. It's a rare walk through craigslist/Goodwill or Habitat Store which doesn't turn up an inexpensive coffee/end table with a glass top.
