I have a big set of old Craftsman red/blue/clear handles and nicer Mac, Matco, Wiha, Craftsman Pro. sets.

The Old Cman's get used for dirty stuff, and the others for clean. I find I rarely spend much time turning screws with screwdrivers, they get used a lot more for "other" stuff.

Impact driver does all the real work. The old Cman's fit the "other" category well. Lots of sizes. That's what you don't usually get with other cheap sets.

"Other" doesn't alway mean abuse... Pry, align, poke holes, remove oil filters, pull seals... All things that we should have other tools to do. Sometimes that tool doesn't work for that application or you just don't have it.

screwdrivers and vice-grips can fill in for lots of stuff.

lol I'm a ups driver. You poor mechanics.

Parts on order safe to run.

My truck needed a part that took 3 weeks to get from the central supply but I had in my hand within an hour on a Saturday afternoon and it was OEM not aftermarket

That part could use changing

Hard to beat the Craftsman screwdrivers when they are on sale at Christmas and sometimes Father's Day. $10-$15 for a set.

So while I have a nice set of screw drivers for, well turning screws, I want a second set to not ruin these.

A set to stir paint with, pry with, hammer away as chisels, and to hammer in the Philips into ruined screw heads before turning.

Suggestions?

Any pretty much.

For chisels you want striking which aren't really cheap new but somewhat available (I think channellock sells an import set).

I used to get the cheapies at home depot and lowes sometimes they were on clearance. Those are pretty good actually not just for this duty. I don't shop at lowe's anymore so...home depot? Comparatively it's cheaper just to buy a set of crystals or old stock for this type of duty. Sometimes at big lots you can find a set of junkers for like 6 bucks (Olympia), I think they're copper (the old ones weren't) so don't hammer on those ones.:bounce:

You have to be careful with some of the cheap -no name- drivers. Some of them are actually so damned good you start to question why you spent so much money buying the top brands.

That *****, trust me! :headscrat
