Cheap, Effective Drawer Liner

I have been trying to find a drawer liner that is cheap, and effective (aren't we all). I found a roll of "anti-fatigue" floor covering at Sears, it was $18.50 for a 10' x 5' roll. I figured if it was good enough for you to stand on, drive a car over, etc it should be good enough to protect my drawers and keep my tools in place. I don't know if anyone else has tried this, I searched and found a few odd things as drawer liners but not this. It's a little thick about a 1/4 inch, if clearance is an issue in your drawers then I probably wouldn't recommend it. I had good luck with it, so I thought I would share. Plus it has a diamond plate pattern. :bounce:

Sorry for the glare from my chrome!

Vinyl Flooring would work good, you might have some from a left over flooring job that was done ?? It wipes clean pretty easy & is thin & plenty tough for tools to lay on.

Good idea, Another that I've used is 1/8" black rubber ribbed floor runner sold by the foot at Lowes. It's extremely cheap, holds up forever, isn't overly thick, lays down flat, and is easy to cut.

This particular piece came in a box I got my dad is probably over 40 years old. I've always used the same product in my new boxes. I'm surprised it's still available.

Jwrightkustomz. That is exactly what i just found as well. I got mine in the exercise section but it was only 84"
I had the clearance problems in my top drawer with the 1/2" drive hensen socket holders, i just trimmed the mat around the base of the tray.

Good idea. Durable to be sure. I have found that soft mesh Kitchen Shelf Liner works well. Only $1 a roll at the dollar store. Comes in a variety of colors too.

Thanks,good stuff above!

Heres an idea for toolbx/equip cvrs:

A few years ago in our M/C shop,I was concerned about a cpl things and decided that a cvr for my "gang" of M/C bxs was in order. So bein the cheap azz That I am went to chinamart and bought some vinyl from the fabric dept.It was cheap chit that "looked" like it was intended to be used as upholtsery? Its Black with a soft liner of sorts....sold by the yard,I bought a long pce.

For whatever reason.....bxs got relocated to a safer environ? The vinyl stayed rolled up and chunked up on a shelf. Then we got some cool old sheet metal equip and where we were forced to locate it....dust,grit and some rather noxious funk from an old furnace meant that they needed to be cvrd up.Remembering that old cheap vinyl wasn't ever used I decided to cut it up for machine cvrs.

It works GREAT!....No "hemming",no sewing,no nuthin....just cut it to size, throw it over the pce and forget about it.Need to shear some sheetmetal?Throw the cvr off(and you can see the chit thats collectd on it)and you got a clean, ready to go machine.BW

I like the anti-fatigue mat idea. I used a roll of cork I got at Hobby Lobby for my toolbox. My top box is a Kobalt, and it came with some nice blue drawer lining.

When looking for drawer liner, I stay away from the tool department. Instead, check out the housewares section to see what's available there. Often you can find dome nice 1/8 black foam rolls cheaper than those in a tool department. You can check the sporting goods section for yoga mats on sale. Lastly, hit Home Depot/Lowes in their flooring section. Look specifically at the rolled runner stuff hanging on the wall. I've used this on tool carts for years. It resists weight well and doesn't melt badly if brake clean gets on it.

That looks like the same stuff that is on my blue-point cart. I will have to use that on my other cart. Thanks!

Have a look in the flooring department for vinyl hall runner. It comes by the foot (metre) in rolls about 36" wide, in black, brown and clear. Just cut it to size. Have used it for many years without any issues. If it gets soiled, it can be removed, washed off then reinstalled. Pretty inexpensive too.

Update: Was at Lowe's today and they have it in black, $4.18 per foot.
