Looking at some cheap lights and wondering what kind of layout I should do. The garage is 30’x30’. With these light should I go 3 rows of 3 and have a few spares or 3 rows of 4 or 4 rows of 3? I know these are cheap **** and won’t last. The add shows pack of eight but I’m getting the pack of twelve.

Didn’t think of this. Should I shoot for 4500 or lower?
If you are older I vote the 5000. 4 rows of three should light up the world in a 30x30. That puts the end of the rows 3 feet or less from the wall and the rows a bit less than 6 feet or so apart. The lights I used in my barn from Harbor Freight have individual pull chain switches. With that I control all with a wall switch and can turn off individual lights as needed. If you don’t hang all 12 you have to store the rest somewhere anyway.

I’m thinking maybe these.

Keep in mind that lights do not have to run in lined up rows. Mine are lined up except for three that are aligned to shop machines to give the best task lighting from the operator position. Here is a pic of my fluorescent shop lights positioned as needed. One is over the lathe in line with the machine and one is over the mill parallel to the tooling hoist rail. I got a real deal on the rounded end LED kitchen light and installed it to provide better lighting underneath a raised car hood.
