Does anyone have a problem with cheap thread locker like below?

Amazon has Loc-Tite blue same size for $1 more.
How much of that do you use?

I wonder what the world outside of North America uses for threadlocker?

Loctite is the known, tried and true, brand - as well as the common household name. I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone using the unwieldy German term for “thread locker” outside someone really desperately trying not to use the brand name. Everyone else will just ask for Loctite. (Which is funny enough, as I have lost count on how many types of thread locker they offer these days, alongside so many other adhesives/ sealants … But let’s just ignore that. ;) )

Besides Loctite, you can purchase thread locker branded by all major industrial suppliers & major brands that have either a connection to the chemical-technical world (selling adhesives, sealants …) or have a connection that relates to fasteners, products being used in an environment that also asks for thread locker one way or another.

All the name brand stuff is priced within a couple of bucks from each other …

As @PCustoms already pointed out, Loctite was acquired by Henkel in 1997.

On the subject matter, I’d stay away from stuff that can’t be traced back to a reputable brand, but that is a purely personal and subjective decision.

Kind regards,
Olli

Delete, Black300zx posted before I did.

I've been using the ESKONKE for almost a year now. No issues but I don't use it a lot either. I will say you get a larger size bottle that's only half filled.

This one says 50 ml all over the bottle and the add. What am I missing?
It was said that you get a larger sized bottle that is only half filled. Which may be true but you’re getting 50ml as stated on the packaging. The size of the container is irrelevant.

When I worked in Germany for a few years decades ago we used thread locker sourced from German suppliers. I still have some in the shop, and use it interchangeably with Loctite. I would have to look at the brand, as I forgot it, but it comes in a blue bottle, with many variations. I think, but am not sure, that there are DIN standards thehreadlocker has to meet.

Tens of thousands of different car parts imported by the major car manufacturers have thread locker on some subassemblies. Pretty sure they would be using imported thread locker and patch bolts. Imported fittings that include sealant on the threads likely use sealant local to point of manufacture.

Loctite isn’t exactly a new invention. It’s been here probably 75 years, and the chemistry is well known in that industry. It’s a commodity by now.

Edit: 1953, so I was close.

So you are getting just what is advertised, 50 ml. What is the point?

Well that is weird, the price is back up to $14 since I first posted!

Another poster said “I will say you get a larger size bottle that's only half filled.” which I quoted and responded to.

That’s Amazon. Prices change constantly.

This is not where I would be looking to save 50 cents, probably one of the cheapest things in the shop. Cut out one coffee purchase & there's your locktite.
cut out one coffee purchase and buy a package of cheese.....
no, wait a minute, that's another type of "Lock Tight"...

Loctite , Permatex and Cyberbond. are what I have used over the years, would not use brands I have not heard of plus I have worked on gear that has the make and type (mil spec) stipulated
as for the air gap,
They are anaerobic adhesives, meaning it cures when exposed to the metal surfaces of the parts it's bonding, not when exposed to air
my last job we discarded more to the shelf life expiring than going off and please I don’t to get into shelf life of products, downside I now have to buy what I need

True enough. I never look at the price and just buy some. For me, a week end warrior, a bottle lasts a long time. Even when I had my shop one bottle would last a month. I spent a lot more money on shop towels and brake clean.

Replying to my own post....I was referring to the ESKONKE brand that TTC rated pretty high. I noticed that the bottles I received (medium and high strength) were, to my eyes, only half filled. I found out from the Amazon page the reason why;

"The product requires air exposure to cure. Note that the bottle contains only 4/9 liquid volume to prevent premature curing."

Unless I'm missing something that makes NO sense.

-Requires air to cure (more on that), so we filled it half full (of air)
-loctite is typically anaerobic (doesn't need air)
