Lots of guys have done it, and posted photos of it, although I haven't.
Take a look through the flooring section here, and you should see threads on some of the assorted materials available (Home Depot, Craftsman, Race Deck, etc) along with opinions and experiences with the quality of such things.
A gander through some of the posts in the garage gallery should help you find an assortment of designs and application techniques to give you a myriad of ideas.

VCT tile is by far the most economical way to achieve the look you want. I installed this on my own 24x24 garage, the tiles are 12"x12", so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out how many tiles you need. Here's a link to my own garage, might help you get an idea of how it would look in your own place.

I'm actually thinking about doing it, but painting it on with the epoxy coating. The tiles can’t stand up the abuse that I put the floor through, but the epoxy isn’t doing too bad. Has anyone done this? All I’ve seen is tile.
