Child's playhouse

So the wife and I were talking and I want to build a playhouse for my little girl for her fifth birthday next year. I can't be the only one on here that has built or going to build a playhouse for their kids. So show us what you built. I'm looking for ideas that might improve upon what I already have in my head.

This is a playhouse that I built for my girls in 2001. I downloaded some plans off the internet, but modified the design a lot. This was built on a slope so it had a bit of a learning curve getting everything square to start. And, it was WAY over-engineered. Since I had never built anything like this I was really happy with how it came out. I put a door and slide on the far side, and a sand box underneath.

Yay, I finally get to participate in one of these "show me your.." threads. Literally finished yesterday, for my 2 year old daughter and her little sister on the way. Still need to finish the windows and door, but it's "done" for now.

I haven't come up with plans yet. My problem is that I tend to build out of my head. I've build a shed, a lean-to and a basement bedroom with no plans just from what I saw in my head. I'm thinking I may have to change that style for this next build.

Here is a question... What do you do with the playhouse once the children have out grown it? Anybody got a tree house? There has to be more than just 2 playhouses built from the guys on this site.

I'll get some pics of the playhouse that my wife's granddad built for her and her sister over 40 years ago. We talked about getting it moved from Nana's house to ours, but the foundation is too rotted.

Dunno, we sold the house and moved to Chicago (note to self: never move from LA to Chicago). Have more kids? Tear it down and start a new project? Post a "come and haul it" ad on CList?

BTW I still have a hard copy of the plans if you want them, be happy to mail them to you if you'll use them.

No where near as nice as those posted but I put this together for my girls many years ago. They spent plenty a summer day playing in that house. 4'x 8' that morphed into my garden shed many years later.

WOW! nice playhouse for your daughter. So now that she is older, what is the playhouse now? Just curious since I'm thinking of building one that will out last my daughters use. Thinking of building it in a way that it can be used converted to a shed down the road or... Like NUTT said just a hangout for the oldman

But...alas....it will not last long. 2 Weeks ago we sold the slide on CL for $250 and the boys dismantled the main portion of the fort....they want to recycle the wood to make a tree house in the avocado tree.....note I said 'they' dismantled it. Yep...out grew it.....

Thanks, Yea, it's used now mostly for patio furniture storage.

Dang, I thought my play house growing up was nice.... i was a tiny little ~4x12 house with a window on one side and a door that closed with a nail too bad i don't have a pic.

my tip would be to try to make it spider proof a few too many times in there with spiders and I found the outdoors more fun then the house!

We sold ours for less than the lumber cost. It was fun to watch them load it on the trailer and have it drive away.

I never considered it but I might have sold it to a GJ member - they had trailers, winches and all sorts of toys available for use.

After over 40 years this playhouse is still standing. I won't move it due to some foundation issues but it is still standing and usable.

I like your style. Sadly nobody built us a playhouse but we learnt to build our own out of junk.
Must admit they weren't very good to start with but it gave me the interest to end up as a builder.

My wife suggests I build a playhouse like ckadams00. Very cool. Only trouble is the boys won't deliver any grand kids....and time is ticking on

Yep I'm pleased you got to show your handy work 88Thunder. That is one very cool playhouse. I've saved the picture for one of my later projects. Looks like a tidy build, very neat work. Thanks for sharing.

I built one in the 70's that was nowhere near any of these. Built on stilts with a sandbox below. Warning...cat's like the sandbox.

Sold this one recently. Built it about 11 years ago.

Here's mine..........designed and built it myself except for siding and roof panels. Has two floors and a 150 ft zip line. 4x4 posts are non structural and are for kayak storage. Have complete build photos if anyone is interested.

Some of these playhouses could qualify as a tiny house. That's the new thing with young people it seems. I watch too much HGTV.
