Chop Saw Stand or Small Mobile Table

I have a small shop I weekend warrior in and use a chop saw on metal items a few times a month for my "projects". I am tired of dragging the chop saw outside to cut stuff and I don't like doing it inside with the cars and cutting debris.

So, has anyone found an option for some sort of a stand that could be made mobile for mounting a chop saw. I went to HF and the stands were not solid at all.

I am actually considering building a small table (2'x3'?) that doesn't take up too much floor space that I can wheel outside. The chop saw would be mounted on one end and the rest would be a small work area for little welding projects, grinding, beating on stuff, etc.

Any thoughts?

Tom

I built a stand with wheels on the back so when you lift the handle on the front you can wheel it out. I would like to upgrade it and put disc storage underneath. I also built saw horses to match.

I made all my benches and stands either 2' or 3' tall so everything matches height wise.

There is a great design for a chop saw stand on one of the welding sites - if you Google "chop saw mobile workstation" you will see it fairly close to the top.

Well thought out design, and has the dimensions in about post #38 or so..

I picked this one up several years ago at a swap meet. Looks like it would be fairly easy to fab up. Bill

That looks great. Kind of like a Kiosk look the way it painted.

Great find. The supports are perfect.

i have a couple stands from HF

havent managed to mangle one in the past 5 years or so.
used some leftover 3/4" plywood for the tops, bolted in place with carriage bolts.

i have a bender mounted to one, ridgid abrasive chop saw on the other.

surprisingly sturdy, small & lightweight enough to carry from the garage down into the basement for winter storage.

what i found out with "cheap" tables, stands and carts, is to loosely bolt everything together, kinda shake it around to kinda even everything up, then tighten up all the screws.

I use a HF mover's dolley that I keep my chop saw on. Since it throws sparks, I put a piece of sheet metal down under the saw. I also made a small roller stand to hold up the other end of the steel I was cutting.

Here's a link to the stand, in it you can see a picture of the chop saw on the dolley. . .. ah here's a picture of it.

EDIT btw, I keep my chop saw under the work bench, so I can just roll out around where I want it.

I made the thing one afternoon when I swept up chop dust again. I had experimented with some catcher stuff, had this riding one end of a bench but they are such a mess and you need to collect drops. Yes, the hose is for fresh to the motor, I could make this even more fancy, I use it frequently not a lot if that makes sense. I finally modified the front nose so it blow dross down in the bottom of the tank better. It sits on pegs to locate it.

Bill,

That is what I had in mind. I like the arms that fold. I also want it on wheels so I can go outside and minimize the mess inside.

Thanks, Tom
