It came out great Royce. I noticed the weld seam follow the seams in the slats. Excellent execution as usual.

Thanks Harley,
I found the design to be difficult and never came up with anything for the armrests that satisfied.
The stone inlay fell a little short also, the color, the shape and overall effect, seem off to my eye.
Don't get me wrong, it is just fine, like most projects, I see things that could be bettered.

Great looking chair! Looks like you expect a 300 pound plus lady to insist on sitting in Sants'a lap!

Finished up the spine cap, with the stone inlay.
Forgot to take a pic, but the stone is held in place with a couple straps tacked on the backside.
I was afraid of heat shocking the stone and busting it, so I went slow on the welding, with a bunch of stops to spray everything with water, to keep things cool.

I’m having a hard time picturing the straps. Any way to explain it or is it something you have to see?

It’s a good thing that you think it could be better. That’s how I feel about all of my work, I always find something that could be better. My boss said something recently that really stuck with me. He asked a coworker how he would rate himself from a 0-10 scale. My coworker said he was a 7-8 in that department. My boss was pleased that he showed confidence but also glad he didn’t say he was a 10 or 12. He won’t hire people that say they are a 10 or 12 because he takes that to mean that they have nothing left to learn and they are perfect. He says if someone is truly an 8 then he would build a company around them because they know almost everything. It’s not a perfect example but it’s something that really made sense to me the other day when I heard it.

Bighead,
I cut a couple steel "straps" 1/8"x3/8"x 1-1/2"+/- long, then formed them to the shape of the backside of the stone.
The hole in the end cap is small enough to cage and keep the stone from falling out the front.
The straps are welded to the backside of the cap, keeping the stone from falling out the back.
Hope that helps.

It seems to me, that there is always room for improvement and the older I get the less I know!
Thanks

Always a pleasure to scroll through your build threads, they are hard to beat.

As I was reading, I wondered if it would get oak arm rests.

Up next, a foot stool of the same design ?

Thanks Nut,
Up next, is a windmill/weathervane/wirlygig of some sort, for Mrs Clause.
No design yet, but do have a ceiling fan, it will be a good start.

After some thought, decided to make the windmill/weathervane in the form of a airplane.
Radial engine, high wing, tail dragger, based loosely on the iconic De Havilland Beaver.
Started on some sketches depicting the engine (ceiling fan), fuselage and engine cowling.

The material for this project came from the skin of a walk in freezer, out of a man camp.

Cowling cut and formed

Also got started on the tail section of the fuselage.
I am limited in my shop to a 24" press brake.
These sections are about 54" long, so I resorted to caveman ways, clamped them to the bench and bent the flanges on them, with a leather mallet.

The plane is looking great. I like seeing you use the caveman method because it’s how I have to do everything.

Thanks quad,
I spent a lot time in the bush and out on the right of way and learned to make do with nothing.
Now I feel fortunate to have a nice shaper bed to do this kind of work on.

I been tussling with how to build and what to build the wing out of.
Low and behold, I found a roll up security door out in the bone pile.
Should lend itself well to building the wing.

To give the wing a little shape and provide structure to mount it to the fuselage, as well as structure for the wing struts, I made up some arched brackets.

Hung the prop, to get a feel for how tall to make the landing gear.
It is clear that the prop is oversized by a good margin.
May cut it down, a touch.
