Only you know how much use they'd see of course - but I bet you could get by with 45's for home use.
I used nothing but the Channellock interchangeable tip pliers for years and suffered no lasting psychological harm. I have a few more nowadays - picked up as I spotted deals. My skilz are also greater that they used to be, hence I might be deeper into a mechanical project that I would have attempted years ago, and options sometimes help.
The dedicated tip variety I have now are nicer to work with, but circlips themselves shouldn't challenge your pliers. If something is stuck due to corrosion or mechanical load - you need to solve that problem first and then the circlip should come out without too much fuss.
I think it would be a perfectly valid choice to try some 45s and only upgrade as required (or deals are spotted).
