I purchased a top and bottom tool box from Retool and the top has 6 drawers and the bottom has 5 drawers. The tool box is made by Clark and the drawers have ball bearings. The two boxes new cost me $375.00 and they came with heavy mats in the draws. Can anyone tell me anything about Clark? I can't find any for sale anywhere! The Retool store had one top and bottom. Any history out there on Clark HD Toolbox?:headscrat

Looks like you own the boxes so what do you need to know ? I have seen them for sale local at TSC farm store and they look well built for the money.

You're probably not finding info on them because you're spelling it incorrectly. Do a Google search for "Clarke tool boxes" and you'll get lots of hits. Summit Racing carries Clarke stuff. It's made in China and sold through a lot of discount stores.

I just never saw this mfg before. I looked at the quality and found it to be very good. I can't find my box on the net. Just wanted to know if there is a place to order more because Retool just had this one and I would like to add some to my shop.Is this company still in busness?

Clarke is very much around and is majorly an importer, which means, quality varies greatly even for the same product and model. Most of the stuff is ignore it.

On boxes, there are some models that are good quality, usually the heavier black and gold ones. On others I have seen quality that could hold its ground on a Cummins tool sale truck. I bent a drawer on one checking it out at an Orschleins, very thin and light, this was on a model I had never seen at Tractor Supply, so they may make different models for different outlets.

We usually get them, we see it before we buy it, that way we are sure it is a good ones. Like most importers that supply to multiple outlets, the model numbers are a mess and seem to change daily or are different for each outlet, so finding the same model may be difficult. I usually look for a date of manufacture on imported items of this size. If it is older it may be hard to match. Sometimes, I have gotten items that are multiple years old, and have bounced around because of various reasons before ending up as a low price deal at some other outlet than the one that ordered it. Bought a number of large drill presses that way a couple of years ago all of them about 4 years old.

I have seen Clarke boxes at 'Peavy Mart' here in Canada. They look quite reasonable but I didn't buy one. Some of the colour combinations are a bit too bright for my taste.

If you have purchased any British Car or Motorcycle magazines then you have likely seen full page ads for 'Machine Mart'. They advertise -lots- of Clarke equipment: this is their web site:

Maybe 'Machine Mart' is the UK's version of 'Harbour Freight' in the USA or 'Princess Auto' in Canada ??

I'm with MarkH...I was looking at one in the TSC store and bent a drawer. About the same as the current Craftsman "homeowner" line.

I've seen a few in both Cummins and the local overgoods place. I dunno for the $$ they are cheap. Then again I'd say the quality is lower than the HF boxes. I'm kinda picky about stuff like that though so I've never gone down that road. I've got a Matco, Snap-On and early Kobalt box and its like comparing a cadillac to a ****** to try to compare to the clarke.

Was at our local TSC for the first time in a while and they did not have Clarke boxes anymore they had something called Masterhand that looked about the same build as the better Clarkes with a poorer finish and another brand that is on the line with Craftsman homeowners.

The cheaper one was priced on the lines of the Craftsman homeowners. The other one did not have a price. Since we do not have any of the Horrible Freights or Costco's around will have to think more about what to do about new boxes.

I have a Clarke box that I picked up from the local tool store. I was searching for a quality bottom, middle, top ball bearing chest set that was under $500. I kept looking at the Craftsman's non-pro bearing chests since they are inexpensive but just couldn't settle for that kind of quality. Craftsman used to have decent boxes, what happened?! I then found this box at my favorite local tool store and picked up the set of three. I think the total was around $400. The drawers are not at all flimsy like some say they have encountered. These are very sturdy and smooth. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a box in this price range. No complaints or regrets.

EDIT: I have also seen the junkier versions at Cummins. This one was painted gold/black as opposed to my red/silver but didn't seem as nice to me. I guess we'll just have to judge each box individually.

I bought a 3-drawer middle box from Mine Mill and Supply down in Florida, a few years ago. I think the quality of it is great. Sturdy, ball bearing drawers, came with mats. It was about $70 too.
I made my own shop cart, and mounted this box to the middle shelf. I'd buy their boxes again.

Clarke is probably most well known here in the uk because they are heavily featured i the machine mart catalogues. Their HD Plus toolboxes are of great quality and actually, the black and gold line of bokes is very appealing. I think its fair to say that your poor quality image does nothing whatsoever for its looks. Having been a user of clarkes tools for some years now, I understand that their best quality products are great but the cheap stuff is pretty bad.
