I am trying to decide between a Snap-on Classic 78 or a Mac Tech 1000. Any feedback would be helpful.

www.theundisputedchamp.com would help a little. the kra series is not quite the same, but is pretty close
the guys who have bought mac boxes in my area ( no mac man for 3 years now )
are not very happy. most have slide problems and the plastic trim is falling off.
so make sure you have someone to take care of it and that they will not hassle you about warranty issues.

I have an older Mac Tech 1000 (10 + years) the plastic on the handles is wearing and the slides have a lump deal that you end up with most of you tools at the back of the drawer after closing the drawers all day. I have made tool holders and don't close the drawers all the way execpt when I want to lock the box.

Those "lump deals" are detents and they can be swapped out for softer ones that make it easier to close your drawers. And your tools are sliding around because your drawer liners are not gripping enough. Both of those problems could have been easily remedied 10 years ago. :D

I had a Tech 1000 for a bunch of years too, and the detents were stiff at first, but eventually wore out....to the point of drawers drifting open. I ended up elevating the front of the box a bit to keep them closed (I've had spotty Mac service).

Should have learned my lesson. My Macsimizer does it too.

I have a Classic 78 I'm perfectly happy with. I'm sure both are good boxes and they are pretty much an apple to apple comparison so In my opinion you should let dealer support and drawer retention preferences (lock and roll or detent) dictate your final decision.

I don't like arrogance. If its that good it should have no problem selling itself.

I have no opinion about the video. In general, I don't think good products necessarily sell themselves.

edit: btw, I've got a Classic 78. Any other Classic 78 owners have any of the optional boxes like the side box or chest? I'm thinking a side box is next. AFAIK, only the one side box will fit the Classic 78, though one KRL looks relatively close in measurement.

you never see mercedes slander anybody to that degree and they sell themselves if you got the cash.

well everyone wants to know why our tools are better, and when we tell you call it ignorance.

just pick the box that you like for the features and benefits that appeal to you.

I bought a black Classic 78 w/ chrome drawer handle guard (for dress up...for some reason I love the aluminum/polished look of drawer handles) last December. So far, for one year's worth of abuse, it hasn't been bad. For some reason, I wish I would have dug deaper into a Tech1000. I'm growing old of lock n' roll (I pulled all the retainers out last year) and there's just something about the sloppy back-n-forth play when the drawers are extended 2/3 or more out. I know the slides are top notch for that caliber box, but why are they so ....how should I put it....limber?
I've never been able to look at a Tech1000 to see its physical 1st hand design, but judging from what others say, does it have higher quality KRL or Macsimizer sturdy, no-jiggle drawer slides? My buddy has a Matco Screamin eagle box (older 5s model????) and those slides are rediculous! The box might not be all that great for the older model, but they seem way more heavy duty than I thought.

In the end it's 100% personal preference. Reguardless of what some may say, comparing these two boxes is 100% legit, all things aside, they both are in the same competing class. Both may a slight victor here & there.
Pick what you like, regrets are always possible!
I think next time I'll definitely check out the triple bay Tech series. for the price and construction based on some reviews on this forum, for myself, it's more cost friendly than a full blowm Macsimizer and bulity maybe a 1/2 tier below in realistic respect.

I have sold a lot of the kra2411's and a lot of the krl722a's
krl is better over all and 100% usa made.
My most popular box for 2009 was the krl7022
Talk to your dealers and get the best deal.
Are you trading anything in?

I have a tech1000 and there are several aspects that are underwealming.
I am happy with it because I paid $750 for it. I wouldnt be as happy if I paid $4000

What models are you all speaking of? It seems that newer Tech series are way better than the early/mid 2000's versions. Upgrades in materials possibly? Can someone clarify this?

They at least look better and improved when comparing as much as I can.

I have only had the box for a couple years. I got it from the 3rd owner at least. Do you happen to know how to remove the detents? I would be much happier without any dentents.

I purchased a used Mac Tech 1000 with a hutch and some tools a few months ago for $800. The only issue I have had with the box is the clear plastic covering on the handle pulls is peeling off. I cleaned the draw liners and lubed the slides and it has been working out fine.
