I bought a black Classic 78 w/ chrome drawer handle guard (for dress up...for some reason I love the aluminum/polished look of drawer handles) last December. So far, for one year's worth of abuse, it hasn't been bad. For some reason, I wish I would have dug deaper into a Tech1000. I'm growing old of lock n' roll (I pulled all the retainers out last year) and there's just something about the sloppy back-n-forth play when the drawers are extended 2/3 or more out. I know the slides are top notch for that caliber box, but why are they so ....how should I put it....limber?
I've never been able to look at a Tech1000 to see its physical 1st hand design, but judging from what others say, does it have higher quality KRL or Macsimizer sturdy, no-jiggle drawer slides? My buddy has a Matco Screamin eagle box (older 5s model????) and those slides are rediculous! The box might not be all that great for the older model, but they seem way more heavy duty than I thought.
In the end it's 100% personal preference. Reguardless of what some may say, comparing these two boxes is 100% legit, all things aside, they both are in the same competing class. Both may a slight victor here & there.
Pick what you like, regrets are always possible!
I think next time I'll definitely check out the triple bay Tech series. for the price and construction based on some reviews on this forum, for myself, it's more cost friendly than a full blowm Macsimizer and bulity maybe a 1/2 tier below in realistic respect.
