So I was browsing through the local online classifieds last night when I came across the ad "Antique drill press $30". Thinking it had to be a misprint I went today for a view. And well it followed me home :D

Turned out to be a 1930-1950 (haven't narrowed down the year just yet) cast iron forged in Canada drill press. Even came with a mortising attachment, the guy I bought it from was the great grand son of the original owner, and he just had no use for it. Still has the original motor with it that looks to have been rebuilt recently. Only thing it needs is a switch wired in. Not bad for $30!!

It looks nice next to its 1940-1950 Beaver bench top model.

thats not a tool it's work of art.........

Gotta agree with Krusty, that is one very cool Drill press. Saw an old Craftsman at a flea market on Sat that had that art deco look also. Didn't ask the price, I'm running out of room until I get some stuff sold.

BTW, how many drill presses does one man need,,,,,,,,,oops, sorry, forgot where I was:bounce:

lol...well I now have 3. 1 full size, 2 bench top. 1 bench top is currently for sale.

I am keeping the old ones and moving the bench top press down to the wood shop in the basement. :)

But even if I had more, I still would have picked this thing up. Its just damn cool to look at!

Excellent buy, I bought a considerably newer version of that Buffalo Drill Press, a 1960's version. However, I paid $75 for it as not much better than a rust hulk rebuilder. You can find many more of those both US and Canadian at http://www.owwm.com/ Well Done.

Love the old DP. After having no luck with a new China made HF one I bought a '96 Taiwan one and while waiting for a new Rohm keyless chuck / arbor to show up I spotted this 60's Rockwell on CL. Picked it up for $130. It's a typical 17-600 series used in numerous schools and had .004 TIR as it stood. I've since installed new bearings in the press, and just have to finish the motor this weekend and it'll be good to go.

That is a nice looking machine. Don't know about you but I plan on using this one as a day to day machine. The newer ones just cannot compete with the old stuff.

I plan on doing some cleaning on it this weekend. I will post some updated pics after I do.
